Try rigging up almost like a carolina rig. Use a brass bullet weight, 1/4 to 1/2 ounce, with a glass bead behind it. Use a baitholder hook and about half of a nightcrawler with one floating power egg. Drag this setup along the bottom, keeping your line tight and pausing for long periods. The trout will hear the glass bead hitting the weight and when they come to investigate, they will see the silt kicked up by the motion of your rig. Once they get in close, they will see your fat, juicy crawler and smell the power bait and they will be helpless to resist.
The single power egg does several things. It provides scent and color wich will help in murky water, and it also allows the bait to sink slower. This technique works best on smooth bottom lakes with no weeds but I've used it with success on weedy lakes too. You just gotta find the holes in the weeds and keep moving around. If you are shorebound, you might be better off using a marshmallow to float the worm off the bottom.
Give it a shot, you may find that at this time of year, the trout will hit natural baits more readily than powerbait, but the single egg helps.
