I have been going to Lake Wannacut in the Okanogan recently and still fishing with powerbait on the bottom seems to be what works the best. Does anyone have any tips on still fishing or know anything that works better than Powerbait? I'm looking for that edge to out fish my father-in-law....

Thanks

If you tend to get hung up in the weeds/rocks etc, then try a slip bobber setup. Use a bobber stop that attaches to your line and can slide through the eyes on your rod. That way you can fish 2 ft to 20ft with no problem (they make a product that you attach to your line that forms a 'blood knot' that is tight enough to hold your bobber in place, yet can be adjusted as desired). This is nice because you can really work more water. Try using worm and egg combos with this.

I have always fished off the bottom, experiment with your leader length it's different for different lakes. power bait in select colors. number 10 single egg hook, and you gotta have some sauce.

Try rigging up almost like a carolina rig. Use a brass bullet weight, 1/4 to 1/2 ounce, with a glass bead behind it. Use a baitholder hook and about half of a nightcrawler with one floating power egg. Drag this setup along the bottom, keeping your line tight and pausing for long periods. The trout will hear the glass bead hitting the weight and when they come to investigate, they will see the silt kicked up by the motion of your rig. Once they get in close, they will see your fat, juicy crawler and smell the power bait and they will be helpless to resist.
The single power egg does several things. It provides scent and color wich will help in murky water, and it also allows the bait to sink slower. This technique works best on smooth bottom lakes with no weeds but I've used it with success on weedy lakes too. You just gotta find the holes in the weeds and keep moving around. If you are shorebound, you might be better off using a marshmallow to float the worm off the bottom.
Give it a shot, you may find that at this time of year, the trout will hit natural baits more readily than powerbait, but the single egg helps.

tight lines

what I do is use a weight at the end of my line then come up 2-3 feet and put a snap swivel on. Then hook one of the cheapy pre-tied leaders on it. This way it gets it up off the bottom, makes the bites more visible because they aren't pulling weight too, plus if they swallow the hook I just snap the hook off and put another cheap leader on.
Works for me!! laugh
