I heard that the Game Wardens where writeing tickets at the Humptulips for fishing with lead head jigs, anybody hear anything about this. This would put a serious hurt on the way I like to fish. They should be giveing out tickets for jerking as hard as you can then casting again and doing that every cast. I would call that snagging.

Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but I think jigs would only be illegal where the anti snagging rule was in effect because the weight is too close to the hook. That would apply to the West and East Fork of the Humptulilps.

No matter how the regs are written, there are always those who find a loophole. The "lure" above is "way over the top". I won't be surprised when a state-wide anti-snagging reg is adopted. Either that or a lot more areas where the anti-snagging lure would be applied.

Barbless hooks, selective fishing(commercial and sport) and anti-snagging......and a big increase in the fine amount if you can't follow the rules.....

No kiddin! I witnessed more snagging than I have ever seen on the river. I relate it directly to having certain rivers closed this fall drawing more pressure to rivers that were/are open. Jigs are legal there and are as many know an excellent way to take both Coho and Chinook if fished properly. The down side is a few people who can't catch fish legally or don't want to will ruin it for the guys and gals who do.

Chum Man,
Jigs should be perfectly legal when used properly. But how do jigs comply with this part of the anti-snagging rule? "Weights may not be attached below or less than 12" above the lure or bait." Is it that weight technically is not attached but is part of the lure? The way it reads the only thing you cannot do is attach a weight within 12" above the jig and the jig as you said is a lure that just happens to include weight. I guess I answered my own question. Never mind.

I would like to see a picture of their "jigs". Might have been one of these "jigs".

Just got home from fishing, (2 hours) caught 4, lost 4 missed a few all unclipped silvers. All of them on home made jigs, basic marabou type 3/8oz, not a one of them was snagged, all in the nose or corner of the mouth. If you do a 180 jerk as hard as you can, you are going to snag some fish, with anything you fish with, this type of action should get a ticket and you see it all the time on every river when the salmon are in. I say take there gear and license so honest people can fish correctly.
