Those'd be some dead, dead, doggies.

Two months ago we got a new puppy from the Oregon Humane Society. Some Pit-mix mutt. They said he was 4 months old. First night we got him home we found out he was already crate trained. No crying no whining. Thank god. That whining sucks sooooo much.

We took him to the vet and he said he was prolly only 2 or 3 months old judging by his teeth.

So far the little guy has also house broken himself by watching our other dog, Mrs Fatandlazy. I swear he's so intelligent

Last week he somehow got ahold of my wife's $200 panama handwoven sunhat and made it look like some [censored] from a Huck Finn school play. That and the expensive fur slippers I bought her in Canada.

He apparently hates souvenirs.

One thing that has worked well for me in training hard headed labs is to punish them with what ever they destroyed( Im not advocating animal abuse but the dog needs to understand who is the boss), and then tie it to there collar for 3 or 4 days. I had a lab that didn't understand how strong he was and liked to play with the cats, Thinned the cats population but was not veiwed lightly by the family. Another time was with the chickens. Once we tied them to him after he killed them, we would leave him in his kennel for a day or two. He would never look at them again, in fact he would leave the area if he saw them. As for house hold items this method works equally as well with a little persistance.

Wow some real horror stories here.

Luckely spanials aren't nearly the distructive chewers that labs are.

The worst I had to go thru and am still living with today is when Sage chewed off the knob on my steering column with the window cleaner. I was at the local Cafe when the waitress says to me, "what the hell is your dog doing." I look out the window and see Sages little muzzle working hard on that knob. "About to get her ass kicked" was my answer. Now when it gets real cold like last week and all that state applied road grime freezes to my windsheald I have to lean out the drivers window with a water bottle and apply my own window cleaner.

I'm all for any tough love that "hardwires" out said bad behavior!

I once had a Siberian Husky that just loved to run and run and run. One time I was playing a baseball game about 20 miles from home and see him waiting for a red light at a busy downtown Kirkland stoplight with the other pedestrians. Got home and there he was waiting for dinner. So my folks and I got tired of picking him up at the pound so we had to figure out a way to keep him in the back yard. He was a big digger and would dig his way out.

A co-worker who trained guard dogs suggested that however he gets out of the backyard is how you get him back in the backyard. Basically if he jumped the fence throw him over the fence. If he dug under the fence shove him back thru the hole he dug. Great idea in principle but a wee bit tougher to apply. So he escapes again and after his rounds he returns home and I grab him by the collar and start to drag him to the backyard. All was cool until he saw his hole and figured out what I was going to do. Took about a 1/2 hour and we where both a bloody mess and extremely pissed off at each other but I finally got him thru that tiny little hole and he never dug his way out again!

Wiring to my lawnmower,trailer,O2 sensor wires underneath truck, seatbelt,A pair of glasses, countless sock's,and of course anything that even smells like food.

A Tabasco sauce setup has worked in the past for food on the counter's

But not for my chocolate he is impervious to pain, beating's etc.
The shock collar will stop him in his track's but he will just turn around and do the same thing over again.

Would not even consider leaving him to roam the house.

He is just dang hard headed .

Crates are a good thing.

OMFG! LuLu has been good all things considered. Couple pairs of flip flops, lots of phone books in the pickup (harmless 2 me). She plays with kids and other dogs well. I watched the bosses dog for the last 10 days and they played wonderfully (they both go to the office everyday though). I picked up my deer burger from the butcher yesterday, and the bosses dog ate a frozen 1.5# bag of burger. His farts were awful!!!!

Mine just wreaked the back yard. I have to be in the right mood to laugh at the distruction some dogs cause. I've been lucky. Or maybe my dogs are. I'd kill um. Gotta luv a lab tho. You guys should get kennels.

I always wondered where my sock go. I don't even have a lab.

My daughters Shi Tzu is bad enough eating things he's not suppose to. Got into my dry fly hackle one day. It looked like a chicken exploded in my living room.

Awesome Santa pic Stam
you should get those grandkids a cute little Lab Demon puppy for Christmas. Great to keep Mom from getting bored while the twins are sleeping all the time.

We have 2 labs (no relations to none of the mentioned above), the male is 10 and the female is 4. They are the 2 best dogs I have ever owned or been around (I maybe slightly biased) but those 2 love socks. You can't accidently drop one and bend over to pick it up before they suck them up. They both have had 2 surgeries a piece for obstructions (yeap socks) at a cost of about 1000 a piece. No worries though I grounded my wife for not keeping the laundry picked up.

Way to be the Man.

I had to kick mine to the curb for not cleaning up after me well enough. She would always make up some excuse like I was at work all day too blagh blagh blagh. Then when I would get drunk, go to bed around 1 or 2 and give her a chance to make it up to me she wouldn't even be greatful for the opertunity. What a b!tch. I sure showed her...

I think thats how it went

I am sitting here laughing about these stories. I cannot beat the Boris story, Mack has had the same issues as the rest of his brothers and sisters. A few hoses, a couple magnolia trees, a piece of siding on the house, has dug multiple holes to China and no kid toy survives around here.

Mack is away on vacation for a few more weeks or we are on vacation from Mack for a few more weeks.... I took him to a trainer in the middle of November and he will come back home in mid-December. They have been working with him on birds and also on some obedience. I went and visited him 2 days ago and i could not believe the gentleman he has turned into. I am sure he will get home and continue on some of his old habits, but I have to say i have hope that he is going to come out of the clink with a new perspective on life!!

Here is a picture of Mack before he went on Vacation. He is at about 80 # now. That was one thing the training place said to me, "he likes to eat"

Nice pic, Mack looks identical to his dad Blue. You can expect him to fill out to about 110lbs

Snit. That's what you get for giving Lulu her own allowance.(;-)
Mack and Tye look like brothers - doh!

I weighed Tye yesterday. He's "only" 78 lbs.
