I'm looking for a new spinning reel, I'm partial to Shimano and would like to hear what models you like, something a little bigger than ultra-light and less than $75. Thanks.

I have to agree with Mike. I've had a Spirex 2000 for 7 years and it's still my best reel. I have one spool with 4# test for trout and another spool with 8# test for Steelhead. Cabelas has the Spirex for $59.99.

You should do fine just finding a shimano in your price range. I use various models for ultra light trouting to winter steelheading. I recommend not getting the 'trigger'. Seems to fail over time, and flipping the bail manually is not really a big deal. Also, I tend to prefer front drag models, but some will swear by rear drag (they tend to be heavier, the drag is easy to accidently bump, and you'll get sand caught in it if your not careful).

Sounds unanimous on the Spirex series reel. Have all rear drag models, but, for trout, recommend to get the 500 model. The rods I use for trout are ultra lite up to 7', its balanced a lot better. I've tried the 1000 model but is too heavy for the rods unless using a 10'6" noodle then its perfect. Just a quick note that I have bent the shafts on the 2000 & 4000 models on steelies. Works great on locally fished rivers for steelies and silvers. If you do pick up the reel from a local tackle store, ask them if they may might have an additional spare spool they may want to sell for cheap. Doesn't hurt to have to many extras to be more veristile. ----------------- "DO THE WILD THANG"

Thanks for your opinions, I picked up a Sahara model 1000 at Boaters World. It has a 6:1 retrieve, Fluiddrive 4BB system and Superstopper anti-reverse, it came with a spare spool, holds 140yds of 4lb test,it's also very smooooth, all for $59.99. I have not fished it yet, but it has taken my wifes side of the bed!
