Brook and Brown crosses... they've been around for a while.

Other lakes have them too.. just need to check the WDFW stocking page. Also remember to look at "fry plants".

We have tiger trout in our high lakes here in Region 5. Forlorn has produced some nice sized ones.

These fish are VERY aggressive, the most aggressive of the trout species. In the right conditions they can get up to 30lbs. although I doubt they will in the high lakes. They are often used to control stunted fish species in lakes.

They are a REALLY beautiful fish, with their tiger stripes they look a lot like tiger muskies!

I talked to a game warden friend of mine named Chris Erhardt last week. He told me.....and I think I'm remembering this number right...that 8,000 of these fish were planted in Blue Lake. They apparently grow quick and should make a good showing this year. Good Luck!

If they are agressive feeders, they won't have much chance to grow in Blue lake.
Powerbaiters will jerk 90% out and eat em within a few months. Odds are less that
10% will make it to year 2. Ban Powerbait!!!!! laugh

Ban powerbait on a put-and-take lake? Not sure that makes a lot of sense. Also, do we know that these tiger trout will be into powerbait? Agressive fish usually like to hunt living prey. I'm sure many will be caught, but probably not as easily as the stocker rainbow.

Then you have to wonder why the DFW would put so many tiger trout in a put-and-take lake? Maybe they want to see if they help clean up the stunted fish populations? Maybe they want to see how many people will flock to the lake to try their luck at catching one of these strange fish??

Maybe they're stocking fry and the fry don't have a high survival rate!

That's why the large numbers for stocking. Probably not more than 3-5% survive.

I noticed last summer that some midnight biologist decided to stock Blue Lake with bass. This was the first time I had seen bass in Blue. They were big so they have been in there for a while feeding on the trout fry. Maybe these aggressive tiger trout will start eating some bass fry. cool

They are very aggressive and used to control stunted populations.

I think most trout are opportunistic... if they are hungry and there is powerbait in front of them then I am sure they would go for it. But if they had to choose between powerbait and a yummy young bass then they'd probably go for the bass!!

I am sure the fact that they are unique fish will draw anglers. We have only put them in high lakes but we are dealing with stunted brook trout and not trying to bring anglers in.

I know of a couple of anglers who have caught them and they are REALLY beautiful fish.

It is really sad when some people decide they are helping a lake by introducing a species on their own. Some of our lakes are managed for trout only for a reason and when they bring bass or other species in, they are making things worse for the lake in general.

Let me know if you catch any of the tigers!!

I agree with you Stacie. Like I said before, I had not known Blue Lake with any other fish in it other than trout. My dad said his neighbor saw some bass under his dock and I was in disbelief. Needless to say, I had to check it out, even tried to catch them. No luck. Blue Lake is kind of funny considering all of the bass lakes there are in that area, someone putting bass in Blue was only a matter of time. frown

Yes "Old Man" IF powerbait were ever banned I'm sure that Zen would resort to worms early in the season. He already ask me about them and I told him how to hook them up. Soak em for 1/2 hour in Cokeacola with a Viagra tablet dissolved in it. They go stiff and stop squirming around and are thus much easier to hook on a worm snell. laugh

That reminds me, there is a new soft drink on the market you fellas can take on your fishing expeditions. It seems that Coke has been found to dissolve Viagra. So they are bringing out a new soft drink with the Viagra in it and calling it "Mount and Do".
Their promotional slogan is going to be "Only soft drink on the market you can literally pour yourself a stiff one". Be sure to take the little lady with ya next time. wink
Har,har, har maybe this will keep somma you outta my best spots.

Powerbait? What the hell is that? laugh Never heard of it. What does it do? Does it wiggle? Does it look like a worm or fish? Is it electric?? Do you have to reel it in slowely or jerk it? Is it a natural bait? Does it look like a wounded minnow? Does it in any way shape or form represent, imitate, or duplicate anything at all that naturally occurs in the wild?........................NOPE. Powerbait is..........in lighter terms, it's Bad JU JU. And you all know what happens when your cursed with the bad JU JU spell. Your pole gets shorter every time you dip your finger in that jar. And I aint talkin bout your Lamiglass. We need to take ACTION, and the time is NOW!! Rise UP! laugh BAN POWERBAIT.....BAN POWERBAIT.....BAN POWERBAIT.....

Powerbaiters are the "NO BRAINERS" of the fishing world. They know not the habits
and food their prey feed on nor anything about the ecology of a lake. Their ignorance is
part of the reason they find it easier to litter the landscape and lake bottom with their line
and garbage and beer cans. They are certainly NOT sportsmen as their main objective seems to be to fill a bloody bucket with dead trout to take home to freezer burn or give the neighbor to freezer burn.

Yes I believe there is a valid place for powerbait....it is with the children who lack the knowledge
to know better and need fast action to keep up their interest.

And what of catch and keep fisheries, you ask? Well if you didn't ask I'll pretend you did anyhow!
They have their place too....in our poor quality waters where the ecology of the lake is not capable
of sustaining large fish populations. I estimate this is no more than 40-50% of our waters, less in E. Wash.

For an education on this issue get a copy of the Canadian trout fishing regulations. You will see with a little reading that 40-50% of their regulated lakes have restricted limits of 2 fish,1fish,or strict C&R

To manage rich lakes like Jameson and Spectacle and Wannicut on a put and jerk out basis is a
SIN. I spoke with old timers in Grand Coulee who say that Jameson for example had large populations of #5 to #10 pound trout in the days when the road was a dirt rut and few fished it.
With proper regulation of C&R, it could again produce such trout as the scuds and chironomids are still in there.

Those of you who percieve your trout fishing as a SPORT vs. a poor quality welfare meat program
need to get a lot more vocal with your F&G Department. More and more people want to catch
sporting size trout and will sacrifice" eating their sport" to gain large fish. We should have a larger voice in F&G Dept. and mainly a LOT MORE WATERS WITH QUALITY REGULATIONS AND BAIT BANS AND POPULATIONS OF LARGE TROUT.

NO BRAINERS? It seems to me that fishnfellas is just as ignorant as the powerbaiters he is trashing in his post. To say someone is not a sportsman because they don't fish the way you do makes you sound like an idiot. I on occasion fish powerbait because I like to catch fish. I also fish with with flies, spinners, spoons and plugs, some days powerbait just works better. I also catch fish to eat and I keep only enough to eat while fresh. Everytime I go out I bring home more trash than I take in, so to lump everybody that fishes bait together as bad apples is just plain STUPID! I talked to a game warden last year at Jameson and he said the state puts in over 200,000 plants a year, if you have a problem catching bigger fish you better change tactics. The last 5 yrs I have caught several trout over 20" out of Jameson and I wasn't using powerbait! To think the powerbaiters are catching all the trout before they grow bigger, once again ignorance on your part. To put a group of people down because of their choice of tecnique makes you sound like a JACKASS!
