Interesting thread especially considering what I just ran across on FB:
http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/photo.php?fbid=101329503227464&set=a.101020769925004.2377.100000512446914
Not sure if that will show for everyone ... but shocked at this reportedly coming off of a guide's boat. I'm usually not too much of a nit-picker on photos of released fish ... but for those that hate Sparkey's Law, it's actions like this that infuriated many angler's enough to legislate common sense.

Im working on a fake fin that you can add to the back of your fish, so you can take a lot of pictures, so you can feel like a man. Probably all hatchery fish anyway that have a pit tag.
I dont know what the big triumph is about taking pics of a wild fish. They are agressive as hell and you can feel the bite with a broom stick and a piece of beef jerkey. The egg cluster imitations in the 50's were nearly the size of a wine cork and tough as wood. They used dacron leader until the dark brown leader came out. After reading that 3 times, I still can't make sense of where you're headed with that... Keith

Shouldn't you be biatching about sulfites in eggs and how they kill smolts at the local Green River takeouts.

MONEY! Mishler is one of the good guys. Proud to support the SkagitMaster franchise. My copy of SM2 came in the mail today... something decent to keep me entertained for the weekend.

Probably set as friend of friends, I won't post his name here as that wasn't my intention to bombard him ... but just coincidental timing of how some peeps do things and why "silly" rules come into play. A little common sense and respect for the resource goes a long ways!

yay he caught a big fish! don't worry, he used a knotless net.... jk, looks like a good guy who just didn't know better, or lost himself in the heat of the moment. It's all about getting a program down. A bad pic is better than a dead fish.

The gentleman got my point - so per Bob - yes let's not bombard him. I fully expected a flame mail in return, but he does seem like a good guy and didn't go there at all.... His reply to me....if it helps clarify what happened. Not an excuse, they just let the excitment of momemt get the boat. I put it on guide here, not his client. "Nick, the fish was netted and in the boat before it was checked to see if it was a native, not good. THe excitment of the big one got to the crew. It will NEVER happen again. The big hen was revived and took off like a bullet. Sorry fisherman!". All we can do is help teach. Some get it and will do their best. Some will just fish the Skok. Nick(0

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

I can tell you photo editors much prefer the angler lookign at the fish There's no accounting for some people's lack of sense. You can see the fish just fine whether the guy holding it is looking at the lens, or looking at the fish like he's going to take it back in the brush and love it.

Its probably tougher for your old lady, to get you to take out the garbage. Maybe she has a picture of it somewhere. Quite the trophy.

Call me weird but I just like to hold them and admire their beauty for a quik few seconds. The pic not only makes for a lasting memory of the fish but the day as well.

To stare or not to stare?
One pose evokes "Man, look at that awesome fish" the other "Man, look at me the awesome angler"
Each has its respective place.
For the classic meathook shot, looking at the camera is just fine... its about conquest over the quarry. "Check me out... I prevailed over this nice fish!" Fitting in its own right... the fish is already dead and so the focus shifts to the angler.
For release shots, I'll side with those that stare. Everything is directed at the fish. The very fact that the angler is already looking at the fish makes you the viewer automatically focus your attention on the fish as well. In our day to day encounters, we all strive for eye contact... it's just the way the human mind works. If you can't make eye contact with the angler, your attention shifts elsewhere. Often times, it ends up being eye contact with the fish.
The stare shots also appear more active, more candid, more "in the moment". The angler is occupied with the task of getting that magnificent critter on his way. It looks like he/she is actually doing something besides standing there waiting to get a picture taken.
And nodoby's got it down better than Danny.

I made the mistake of watching a little televised fishing before bed last night. The worst was the host who uses a Lindy Glove to lip his coho.........
