Thanks for the pics and reports. Blue water fishing is one of my favorites. Got a buddy lives in Kona. Calls me about once a month to remind me it's 84 and sunny every day.

Love that beach, was just there with the wife in Dec. Its quite a hike to get there... great place for the ladies to tan the entire upper body. I broke a flip flop on the way back just before the lava fields, that was fun. A pic of just getting there.. Another perfect Kona sunset…….Aloha. Btw Mingo, where were you guys staying because I swear this photo was taken from the lanai at the Kona Bali Kai. Maybe all the sunset photos look the same over there, here's one of mine higher and a little more to the right. Nah, what are the chances? Great stories for sure, perhaps we'll trade a few someday over a few

Btw Mingo, where were you guys staying because I swear this photo was taken from the lanai at the Kona Bali Kai. Maybe all the sunset photos look the same over there, here's one of mine higher and a little more to the right. Nah, what are the chances? Great stories for sure, perhaps we'll trade a few someday over a few We were a couple condos closer to "downtown" but every condo seems to have the same palm tree grove so the sunset shots all look the same. Some good reef fishing in front of the Bali Kai, we've stayed there before too. Funny you mentioned the blown out flipflop....we were thinking the same thing....if you lost a slippah on that trail you'd be F'd up! that must have been a long slow walk back for you. Heh, December....damn we just missed each other. I packed in enough cold beer for everyone so you guys wouldn't have been thirsty. I hooked some pretty decent reef fish between those rock formations when the waves died down using an 8 wt and clousers. Yes, some opportunity for sunbathing on that beach.... but there were some who definitely need to keep their damn clothes ON lurking about Kind of a grisly story.....one day I hooked a huge puffer fish on a borski slider. I saw him, cast to him and danced it in front of his face and he calmly sucked it down. He didn't realize he was hooked until I started to pull him toward me then he started to freak and went "chomp". I reeled in slack line and saw that he had bitten clean through the tempered saltwater hook !!! I was telling that story to a friend who showed me a photo of his father in law's thumb. Seems he saw a puffer in a tide pool near Kona and decided to "rescue" it and carry it out to the surf. Somehow, in the process of carrying it out to "rescue" it, his thumb got too close to it's mouth and it bit half his thumb off. I almost puked when I saw the photo. I caught one 5 years ago and hoisted it up by the barbell eyes of the bunny leech it hit. I had my hand too close! Knowing what they are capable of, I'll be a lot more careful in the future.
