I just got my hands on a camera that has 1080p HD video and a 32GB memory card to go with it. I plan on making some videos down the road of hunting ventures, steelheading, etc. The camera apparently doesn't have good sounding recording, but the picture is beautiful.

Can anyone recommend some freeware (if it exists) of a good video editor? I don't need anything fancy. I just need to be able to splice, add some text, maybe throw in some heavy metal.

If you can scrape up the $40, then you will save yourself endless time and frustration if you go buy Pinnacle Studio HD. It's SOLID, and very AFFORDABLE.

Assuming you're looking for a Windows software.

Premier Elements from Adobe is pretty good too. Although it's probably closer to the 100 dollar range now.

any adobe stuff is usualy worth the investment... Alot of the free/cheap stuff won't do justice to your 1080p HD footage.

Not sure Adobe Premiere Elements (the cheap version of Premiere) will do HD, or 1080P in specific. Still think you'll be far happier w/ Pinnacle Studio

IR, does Pinnacle Studio allow you to work directly with .mov video files? Their website says nothing about using .mov as an input file.

Also, how many video clips can you work with at one time? Apparently this might be an issue with some other programs I was looking at. If I'm not mistaken, the Corel editor only lets you work with 6 files at 1 time.

MOVs are the native Mac/Quicktime format... If I had to guess they will work, but not be the center of the product strengths... If you google "pinnacle studio trial" I bet you'll get a trial version you can at least poke around with and see if you're happy getting files loaded in from your camera.

I can't imagine having a limitation on input clips, that's just stupid. I'm not aware of any programs (I guess except Corel) that do this.
