Why do boat motors cost so much. You can not even get an old motor cheap. It is an over priced lawn mower. Think about it. confused

Any Ideas ?? confused

Supply and demand? Demand must be good because I have been hearing about small motor theft rings in Burien lately.

Motors are like gold.

Yes motors are like gold. Since they are so expensive new, there is a very limited supply of used motors with low hours on them. When you do find one, they don't sell at a huge discounts to new. People buy and run 'em until dead.

Unlike lawnmowers, outboard engines are generally improved upon each year......and this is where the higher prices come in.

If you are looking for advice, I would recommend buying in Canada and keeping your engine for a long long time. There have been several posts on this topic in the past year.

Yes, buying the motor in Canada maybe cheaper.
And if you dont mind going back there for warranty
work it's ok. I work at a Mercury, Yamaha,Johnson
Evinrude dealer. We are not obilgated to work on motors sold in Canada. Also in some of the bigger
motors the parts are different as are the part numbers. We do have some used/reconditioned motors
here. E-mail me and I'll give you a phone number.
