hey all, i'm finally going to get out on the green tommarow evening for the tide change. i've never fished in a river from a boat and need some help. i bought the pink wiggle wart(thanks easy) and am going to launch from the 1st ave bridge area, that's about all i know so far.
which way do i troll, with current or against.
how deep is the river around there and how deep should i troll?
what baits work around there and are they leagal, regs a bit confussing.
since i've never fished around there how do i figure out where the 43rd st. bridge is?
thanks in advance.

From what I saw they were catching fish going both ways on the river, with and agianst the current. As for depth, they seemed to let out about 50-60 feet of line or so, and a lot of the boats trolled pretty quickly. The river is pretty deep in most spots, but watch out at low slack tide as it gets kinda low. Baits, most of the boats weren't using baits, but if you want to I'd either plunk or use a float with some eggs. I saw one boat plunking hook into a nice king using eggs but they lost it. Umm, well hopefully Carl can respond to you because he knows about this fishery more then I do. This is just what I saw today. Good luck.

Sushi, Once you leave the launch head left or upstream, that is were the fish will be. Troll against or with the current, it does not matter which direction. Most of the fish today were up by the Boeing access bridge. This area can change depth greatly. At the slack low today some areas are only FIVE FEET DEEP. Stay in the middle of the river and you wont hurt any equipment! On a high slack it goes up to fifteen feet. Heck, today, there was a big (26ft) older Bayliner as far upstream as the Pak Hwy bridge. The Pak Hwy bridge is about as far as you want to go with a prop. The 43rd St. bridge is up stream by Southcenter Mall. Troll your Wiggle Warts with no weight, right on the surface. You will see, the fish will be right on the surface. Everyone, except for a few guys of European decent, today were using Wiggle Warts. Trolling spinners and large spoons can also produce fish. Once again, NO WEIGHT! See ya out there!

The nets will be in the river Sunday evening and Monday morning. The indians can only net up to the Boeing access bridge. You will want to fish upstream from that.

Most guys will toss spinners, like Vibrax's, in size 3 in orange, pink, silver, and gold. Drifting eggs also work.
These fish get a real bad case of lock jaw so patients is the key.

Anybody have any luck on the Green recently? For the past three years, I've spent a few days every October throwing spinners, D-Nites and even jigs at those jumping silvers near the Boeing complex. Haven't hooked one single fish! I'm all ears if anyone has anyone suggestions. I don't have a boat so I'm pretty much shorebound...
Anyone have any ideas why the silvers on the Green are such poor-biting fish?

BB, if the hook is in a sensative area like the throat, tongue, or near the gills, just cut the line close to the hook. Trying to dig out a hook will cause way more damage. Hooks are cheap...

Did anyone go out on the Green today? How did you do? I am going to go out after work around 3. It will be my first time fishing on a river for salmon. Hopefully the rain brought in more fish!

I am going to be fishing down closer to Boeing...near BECU and ITT Tech, there is a river path there and couple of spots I might try. I am going to try using dick nites and some other spoons. I heard that using a spoon with a little weight (like those ones that clamp on) about 2 feet up from the spoon will work. I am going to put some fish egg smelly juice stuff on the spoon. I don't know how to get the eggs to stay on the hook, so that is why I didnt want to try to use them. I heard you have to tie the hook a certain way to get the eggs to stay on. Let me know if there is an easier way or if you have any other ideas on what I could use (just keep in mind I am very inexperienced). Thanks for you help! I'll definately let you guys know how I do.

Went out yesterday afternoon near Allentown (Tukwila), by the community center bridge. Didn't catch anything!!! I didn't see anyone around me catching anything either. I saw a lot of fish jumping, but none biting. I hope next week will be better. I heard the tides are bad this week. Someone told me that next week will be the last week fishing will be good lower on the river where I have been fishing (Tukwila), is that true? I just want to catch one damn it!! It is just so frustrating when you can see 'em jumping, but aren't even having bites. Hope everyone has a good weekend and goodluck fishing

I seriously doubt that Fishin Chick. Fishing in the lower Green should be good till the end of the month for silvers. Then the chums start to show and that is good till Thanksgiving and beyond.
I can remember, two years ago, catching a 15lb mint bright chum day after Thanksgiving with trout gear at the S.112th St. foot bridge. Man, was that a hoot. To bad no one was around to see it. I did not even have a net.
Next week (Oct. 16th), the area up by Hwy 18 opens up. Fishing there is a slam dunk. Good place to practice technique and try different tackle.

Fished down by the 277 bridge today. Got a small hen on a red worden's blue streak spinner. Had some nice eggs in it. Saw one other fish today. The Soos creek area opens next week. That's where I'll be.

Ya, I stopped by there after work to do some recon. There weren't any fish at the mouth of Soos Creek. All the silvers are holding in the Car Body Hole just down stream from Soos. Saw quite a few caught just in the hour or so I was there. Most guys were chucking orange/red corky and yarn.

I can confirm Carl's observations. There are lot's of fishrolling in the Carbody hole. I stubbornly threw eggs for a while with no results- the switch to small corkies proved successful. Lot's of people, but I can't report a success rate, I went to a vacant area.

REPORT: A good buddy of mine is STILL catching nice silvers down by S. 112th St. at low tide. He has been pitching eggs with good success. Seems as though the indians have reduced their netting effort this week.

I was going to go this afternoon, but I cannot find anyone to go with me I don't think it is very wise for a girl to go down by the river by herself. I need to meet some more fishermen, so I can have partners. Anyone know of any type of clubs or something that meet in the Renton/Eastside/Southend? Goodluck to everyone this weekend.

Just had two reports phoned in. Overall slow in the upper section and the fish seem to be on the dark side? One of my partners picked up and moved locations and nailed a 10-12 lb crome summer run hen. Fish chick- there is a puget sound anglers club meeting on the 2nd wendsday of the month in kenndydale at 7pm. I forget the name of the hall but if you take the kenneydale exit and go east past the gas station apx 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile you will see it on the left before you make the turn in the road.

My buddy, who has been getting fish down a S.112th St., got three more today (2 jacks 1 adult). He has now passed me in the catch record card race. Fishin Chick, this forum is "club" enough for me. If you, or anyone else, would like someone to fish/show you the Green let me know. Drop me an email.

Carl,
I wish you had your camera too. I ended up grabbing the one from my office and have pictures a day later in my kitchen. Just isn't the same as at the river. And yes it was my first salmon. I was excited. Quite an experience.
I don't have access to add pics to this forum and since you saw it at the river I won't send them to you. They aren't the greatest.

Busy, now that I read my own post, I see there needs to be some clarification on my part. I am refering to, if I were Floatuber and I just caught my first salmon I would be posting pictures all over the place. Like this! Floatubers' First Salmon

Oh ya, Floatuber, after I saw you today I moved a little downstream and ran into Berkley Boy75. Good to have met you BB75! I changed my gear to a Daredevil spoon with a pink Gammi hook and had two fish on, didn't land them though.

Thanks Carl. Had a great time this morning. Crappy pics already sent to you.
got down there at dark this morning. Withing an hour I had successfully limited out. And I am a beginner. I bought some stuff last night. Hooks, rubber glob of egg, bead, and yarn. Bright red. It was beginning to lighten up and bam bam. FIsh on. But after about 8:30 you could make your bait spread the salmon sea. My wife couldn't get her stuff infront of a fish after light for nothing.
Like I said I am new and I think I was lucky but I would say get there right at legal time and ater about an hour or two later leave. The fish definitely switched behaviors early and wouldn't take anything.
Just my .02 but I am new and who know.
By the way the warden that checked me on Wednesday was down there again today with a backpack and rod. She would throw a cast and then walk up and down. She checked and watched me "LEGAL" but she was incogneto so most poeple didn't know what she was. Hopefully they can clear a few ****heads out of there.

Gamies going undercover???? Cool! Now maybe we can get some results. You got any more of those daredevil spoons Easy? I was thinking of giving them a try.
Newbie - send me an e-mail of the type of eggs you were using. If they are the ones I think they are I may have some and try them out.

Well I was planning on fishing Highway 18, but I've just been hearing a lot of horror stories about all the snagging and when I drove by it at around 6 30 it was full of cars, so I opted to fish somewhere else. I did well too, got 2 fish. A pretty big 7 pound hen and the tiniest silver I've ever caught, a 1-2 pound buck. The Hen had some color but the jack was chrome bright. Both fish on a number 4 green vibrax. Good luck

Still a fair number of silvers in the Tukwila area. Lots of jumping and rolling fish, but many are showing color. I've got no clue why they are so lock-jawed this year. The single fish per trip my son and I have been averaging is barely keepin' us in eggs and eats. Today's fish was a bright jack that fell for drifted eggs and a mini-marshmallow. Only other silver we saw landed was caught by a plunker.

The Green has been real tempermental this year. You can fish for several hours and get no bites then all of a sudden BAM! everyone is catching fish then nothing again. I think the low water conditions are really messing up the bite.

Launched down out of the 1st Ave Bridge yeterday. Just a few other boats and not that many fish moving around. However, my buddy and I manged to round up 3. 8, 6, and 5. All bright with sea lice on 6 hits in about 5 hrs of fishing before dark. Very sporadic action but there are still a few fish moving in on the tides. Next week???

I stopped by the hatchery this afternoon. They have had 3600 coho return so far. Most of the coho in the holding ponds now are bigger than the coho I saw two weeks ago. A lot of jacks in the holding ponds two weeks ago.

Bossman, were you fishing the river above 1st ave or down towards Elliott Bay? Using wiggleworts? How about a little more information.
Thanks

Fished the green today for silvers. Man the Highway 18 parking lot is still crowded so I again opted for another area. Had the river to myself. Only hooked one, and landed it. It was the biggest silver I've ever landed on the green, about 15 pounds, but it was dark and I'm pretty sure it was a native because it had a fin and hatchery fish usually don't get that big on the green. Ah well, it doesn't look like there are any bright fish left in the river. Can't wait for those chums!!

We fished the Carbody hole on friday morning. Watched the usuall snagfest. Moved down to the sandbar dogleg and saw lots of fish going psycho unlike the carbody. Watched the guy next to me snag 6 fish. Another guy walks up and starts fishing. Every cast he would rip the line at the end of the drift. I finally saw what he was using. A 4/0 bare hook and lead. Explains why he never brought the line out of the water untill he was starting his cast. Obviously not wanting us to see what he had on. Once again i left in disgust. But then i saw the game warden. And quickly pointed out the 2 guys at that hole. $500 bucks a piece and all their gear, bye bye. Warden said undercover officers are there almost every day now. Nothing but smiles from then on. An awesome day!!!

I have heard of chum sightings in Elliott Bay and in the lower Green lately. They are probably just waiting for the silvers to move along. In years past, I have seen chums thick in the lower Green around Turkey Day. They get up by Flaming G by the end of the year.

troller, I thing you may be getting steelhead and salmon runs mixed up.
There is are summer run steelhead, then there are the winter run steelhead. The winter runs are usually broken into 2 distinct categorties - hatchery brats and native fish. The hatcher fish come in the early winter and the native fish come later. This is why many or our rivers are closed after February the last few years - to protect the wild\native fish.
In the summer, the green gets some kings, then some silvers, then some chum - in that order - starting in Sept and ending in Dec.

There are chums up by metzler usually by mid-november. They're usually around there and Flaming Geyser till about mid december. So start looking for them in about 2 weeks or so. For now, yes head to the canel and rip some lips.

Naw I haven't made it over yet. But I've heard from some guys that fished Thursday and did really well. So if the indians don't too much netting it should be excellent over the weekend. I'm fishing the Green tomorrow for silvers, then doing hoodsport on Saturday.

Fished the Green below Highway 18 at the carbody hole. Nothing but dark silvers. I don't think I saw one legal fish caught. I foul hooked 3 and released them, nothing i could've done, i just lifted my rod tip up slightly and they were hooked. That drift is not very much fun to fish at all. I think I'll stick to my other spots where I can throw my spinners towards aggressive fish. Well I'll be at Hoodsport tomorrow. I'm the 15 year old kid in a small smokercraft with my dad and my little 13 year old brother. Say hi if you see me, it'd be cool to meet some of you all.

Ya that guy in the red hat was my dad. I was one of the other guys in there. We had way to short of an anchor so we just kinda motored around looking and caught a couple of fish here and there. Interesting day as we definitly need a longer rope next time. Oh well, you always learn something new on the water.

Went to the Soos Creek Hatchery today. Their board said they have had 6K coho return to the holding ponds so far this year. The entire return for last year was 41K coho. <img border="0" alt="[wall]" title="" src="graemlins/wall.gif" />

i went down to the 277th hole, but there was 2 dudes pitchin crappie jigs, and i asked one guy and he said nuthin on, so i didnt stick around, maybe i will tonite, so is there alot of fish in ther eddie? worth my time? i still see some silvers jumping in there, easy, could it be there was 41k last year and 6 k this year, cuz of the nets and low water keeping the fish out in the ocean, its no wonder that the muckleshoots sell there salmon dinners at the casino so cheap..

I was down at the 277th hole and the Hwy 18 carbody hole and IT IS SAD. I gave it two weeks off "SICK AS HELL" and then today where did all the water go? It is so low by 18 and as far as chums by 277th I didn't see any but two guys were trying with no luck.
That is all I know lately.
Very few in there compared to two weeks ago and they are DARK DARK DARK. and shy shy shy.
