Has anyone here ever fished lower lena and did you have success? I am hiking there with my float tube this weekend.
It is a warm up trip before I ht Mildred lakes.

Well, I guess I will take an assortment of bugs and report back next week. I had to buy a new inner tube from Les Schwab , the ex left a hole in my other one before she left last summer.

Did both lakes many years ago. Mildred is a pretty tough hike. I was a bait thug then so don't know much about the bugs. I do know Mildred had samoe really nice trout. And the mosquitoes were fierce by the small creek you cross about 1/2 way in.

Good luck. I am eager to hear your report.

I've done REALLY well with black ants, bead heads and other small terestrials. I still have a raft stashed up there somewhere from 24 years ago.

If there is snow I can still go snow tubing. Thank you for the input, I am thinking of woolies since it is still pretty cold.

I went to Mildred last fall, yes it is a tough hike, but worth it. At that time it was sight fishing with nice trout like Dave said. I don't know if I could hike my tube up there.

The second lake of the three Mildreds by far had better quality trout.

Play cat and mouse by twitching/waking a soft hackle spider or Carey's. You may bring a hungry boil to an otherwise mirrored surface....

Enjoy!

I've done both a a few times. As you know Mildred has much better fishing. Off the charts better.

Lena is going to be really high this time of year, but I did decent trolling with a ty IV line and assorted seal buggers.

Sorry, I have some decent pictures I am trying to load them.

Ok here we go,

Left work with my overloaded pack(60-70pds).

I had never been to Lena but it actually was a nice hike and not very much other foot traffic heading on up. Weather was ok, it was the rain/drizzle for 20 min and sun for 30 min. The fishing was ok with everything in the 8-12 inch range. Of course I missed the biggest take, but that is how it goes. They were eating something a lot smaller than what I had planned on (I think they were knats). I brought along my Canon and hopefully you guys like a couple shots.

Here is the view coming out of the hike

tent

tube

This kid liked my float tube so I put my stuff on him and off he went. He loved it just puttering around, he had a spinning rod but just floated around. He enjoyed how quiet everything was and how you couldn't here anything but birds and the waterfall

Some scenery shots

Here are some bonus shots at a waterfall. A shiny star for the person who can name it.

I am surprised no one has guessed the waterfall, unless it is a no brainer. Any guesses?
