I was wading down a small stream and came across a nice shiny fly reel on the bottom in a couple feet of water. A while later I found a box of flies floating behing a rock. I started double timing it to show my buddy all the cool stuff I had found and as I came around the bend i noticed his 4 year old sitting on his shoulders reaching around into the back of his vest for the next interesting item. That's funny. I bet your buddy was happy you were cleaning up behind him. I never found any thing of value on the river. However, we were fishing the yakima when a suit case came floating down. I lost a nice pocket knife in the Methow. If any one finds it, I'd like it back...

This year on the Kasilof I watched a client in another guide boat fumble the rod on a take down and drop a loomis mooching rod with tekota reel into the drink with fish still attached.
An hour later I watched Gary McFadden's(another guide) boat hook up and reel in the lost rod and reel, then reel in the fish that was attached to the lost rod and reel!!!!!
Craziest [censored] I've ever seen! The best part was the lost rod was returned to the owner shortly after. Totally unbelievable!!

That reminds me of a similar event.
I had set a client's rod on the roof of the boat to net fish before I could re-bait his hook. In my haste, I left the end of the line just touching the water and an over achieving dolly came up and ate the remnants of a bait off the surface, pulling the whole shebang off of the roof of the boat and into the depths below.
An hour or more later another client managed to snag the rig off of the bottom with the dolly still attached. Saved me a few hundred bucks anyhow.

I was up in the sky awhile back, made a few casts and as I was working my way down stream, looked in the water and saw something shiney, reached for it and picked up a Gerber multi-tool that was in fairly good shape, brought it home and gave it a wd-40 bath, my oldest son still has it in his tackle box.

My wife, while doing a spawner survey on Issaquah Creek, found a nice (loaded) spear gun.

Hey Jer, Would the boy you were be proud of the snagger you are? That is a classic line right there! In all fairness to Jerry- technicalities dont apply when it comes to winning the favor of a redhead. I lost a dandy winter run that spooled me on the Wynoochie several years ago- I always hoped I would hear that someone caught the 175 yards of line and found my fish and plug still intact. THAT would be a nice find! The best thing I ever found was a driftboat anchor which I kept as a spare and still have today. I am still looking though.

Fishing the upper Green river King county, I found a fosselized clam about 8 inches from end of the shell to the other. It weighs about 4 pounds. I took it to University of Washington and they dated it to be around 30 million years old. It looks like a horse clam, its shell is a shiney brown like a well polished pair of boots.

A couple of summers ago, I was fishing the canyon section of the Kalama River when I was approached by a fisherman who I had observed earlier that morning fishing the run that I was currently on. After exchanging greetings, he inquired about whether or not I had seen a wedding ring anywhere in the vicinity. He then went on to explain that he had caught a couple of steelhead, and that his wedding ring had somehow fallen off while he was cleaning them. I am usually pretty good at finding things in situations and places in which most people would have simply given up. So…After informing him that I had not seen his ring, I offered my assistance. Approximately 10 – 15 minutes later I discovered his ring in the sand next to a river side boulder. He was elated when I presented the ring to him. As a gesture of gratitude, he offered to give me the two steelhead that he had caught. I declined his offer after which, I informed him that he could thank me helping out anyone who he runs across on the river who is in distress.

Not a river, but I was anchored and mooching in an area where the downrigger guys come by and cut off fish with thier wire. Anyway, I fell asleep and when I woke up, pulled my anchor, about 30 fathoms. It pulled kind of hard and on the rope near the chain there was a hoochie, leader, and large flasher, lots of line, fishing rod, and reel. I turned it in at the harbormasters office.

Found a lot of crap. I also lost my wedding ring while cleaning silvers one day. I came back the next day and found it. 2 years ago I lost the same ring down a razor clam hole.
On the Cloquallum creek as a youngster I found 2 knives one day. One was sweet, it had a the blade coming out from the handle at a right angle. The blade would go out between your middle and index finger. Great knife for punching and stabbing at the same time.
Then one day at the Humptulips Dike boat ramp I found a copy of "Plumpers" magazine. I asked my cousin why someone would buy something like that. He said: "Some guys set their sights so low that they don't even buy porn with hot chicks in it."

it had a the blade coming out from the handle at a right angle. The blade would go out between your middle and index finger. Great knife for punching and stabbing at the same time. Did the knife look like this? The safe maker, while cool looking, is generally thought of (in the knife nut world) to be sort of a gimmick and not very functional for it's intended purpose. The blade and handle design put a lot of leverage on the blade and make it hard to hold onto and keep straight. For cutting your way out of a fight, a Kabar is definitely the way to go. and no, I haven't found one in or beside a river.

Shimano Calcutta 250 while peeing at the Cracker Bar. Thinking let's see.... reel I'll never use? Or leave behind for a tweaker to convert to a small bag of meth? Threw it in the middle of the river.

Found a safe in the Cedar River. Sheriff divers pulled it out days later while I was at work. They said it was empty and likely dumped after a commercial burglary. Found a decent watch in the Duwamish. It hadn't been there long as there was no water damage or tarnish, just a dead battery. Spear gun, mask/snorkel, and fins found scattered on a finger jetty at Half Moon Bay near Westport. Found hundreds and hundreds of drift bobbers on the banks of local rivers; lost hundreds myself.
