Hunter, Ryan and I took their friend Joey out for a day at a local kids only lake. Joey's dad recently arrived in Iraq and asked that I try to get him out fishing while he was gone.

We were the first ones to the lake, on a beautiful day. I started out by getting the rods out in the water for the boys, then broke out the 4th "practice" rod with only weight for casting.

Each boy would get would get 10 casts in a row, and within an hour while keeping them entertained, we had our first victim of the day.

After each round, the boys skills were improving.

We spent some time eating junkfood, the boys giggled a lot, and got fairly dirty. All in all, it was a pretty spectacular day.

Take a kid, or three, fishing. "Its a good thing!"

I love taking my daughter out and thus far between the two of us on the lake we fish she is winning the contest for the largest fish and I could not be more proud.

What an awesome day. I’m jealous. In about a year I will be able to take my grandson. I'm really looking forward to that.

that brings back some memories. when i was 13 or so, i used to fish for bass off the big concrete wall(dam?) at the end of the lake that is about 2 feet under the surface around july or so. slaughtered em on rapalas almost every day

also caught a lot of nice big trout out of there on spinners. some in the 5+ range. there's browns, rainbows and cutts in there, at least when i used to fish it(4 or 5 years ago)

also, lois lake across the street kicks out a few nice big trout every year for me. 1998 for some reason every kind of fish imaginable was in there, then they disappear for a few years t and come back. must all come down the creek from long lake...all i caught last year were catfish. maybe it'll be perch or bass this year
