This story needs a preface…. I am fortunate enough to have a spare garage bay to park my drift boat in. This is really nice because I can leave all my stuff in the boat, cushioned seats, oars, tackle boxes etc. I can even leave the plug in. When I want to fish I just throw the appropriate rods in the truck and hook-up to the boat and go. Well recently I was asked by a relative to store an antique car until we can sell it. This unfortunately involves storing my db outside. So I’ve been taking out a lot of stuff like the seats, oars, tackle boxes rather than having them sit out in the weather…..

Fiasco…..Last Friday a couple of buddies and I decided to play hooky and head down to the Satsop looking for some coho. So I load up the boat the night before then grabbed it early Friday morning and met the guys in Monroe around 4:30 am and headed south. We get to the put-in at 7:00 am drop the boat and are just about to slide it down the bank when one of the guys asks “dude where are the oars?” You know that feeling when you realize you’ve done something colossally stupid? Well that feeling, magnified by ten to the tenth, washes all over me. Yep…we’re in Satsop and the oars are still in Monroe.
Now what? My guys started to consider some bank fishing options but I start thinking about another plan. I knew long time PP board member Dogfish (Andy) has a drift boat and lives in McCleary. I also remembered from some of his posts that he was a banker in Aberdeen. Hmmmm…..I really didn’t know him and didn’t even know his last name but I did know another PP board member, Seastrike, who might have Andy’s contact info. So one of my guy’s calls Seastrike and sure enough he gives us Andy’s cell number. We call Andy and inform him of our pathetic situation. Andy says no problem and that he was just about to head to work in Aberdeen and would meet us at the mini-market in Satsop. We put the boat back on the trailer and head to the market. Andy shows up right on time and hands off the oars and gives us directions to his place (which was right on our way home) and where to drop off the oars.
So from the time we drop the boat off the trailer with-out oars at the put-in to the time we drop off the boat again with oars….drum roll…..45 minutes. How’s that for a rebound?

Thanks again Andy!!!!!!!

You are welcome guys. You're just lucky you caught me on a Friday morning. I do one good deed each week, and only on Friday. Any other day, pure asshole.

Haven't had the need for help just yet, but I'm pretty sure if I needed it, and I asked, I wouldn't be disappointed.

Thanks for the beer.

Sounds like Andy deserves some fresh coho, and perhaps a skien of eggs for coming to the rescue.

Great story!
