Sorry...didn't mean to misrepresent you...as you can see, I'm pretty passionate about this subject!
Fish on...
Todd I understand. Even though we have not always agreed on everything have always appreciated your passion for the fish and fishing. Geeez...this is a flossing discussion and I am being way too nice. Let me see if I can change it up... (DO NOT TAUNT HAPPY FUN PAKER)

I have also said that I think flossing, as a technique, is less harmful to the fish than many other techniques that you would consider "ethical. Flossers often target groups of tired, old fish that can't take the stress of riding a flosser's rig. .....I suppose it is better than a fish going to waste.
This one will never go away. Maybe the carcasses of these fish are providing nutrient for juveniles and insects downstream ? It's true, the thrill is in the pickup, the grab. For that there is no substitute.

Flosser working a hatchery hole or a boat weeding through a mixed stock/yearclass fishery and posting pictures of his work. Who's doing more damage? I know where I'd like to see very limited LE funds being spent on enforcement.

Whoa, there, Nor Cal Drifter. I didn't say I had NEVER seen a bleeder that was flossed. What I said was that I RARELY see snagged fish bleeding. My point was that flossing, while I think it sucks, is probably not any more harmful, all things considered, than what we call legitimate fishing. To be clear, I don't support flossing as a legitimate form of fishing. Because people do it, regardless of legality, my suggestion was to confine those people to small, well-defined areas where they might do more good than harm, all things considered.
My reasoning is that guys who floss or snag outright are generally in it for the meat. Where along the river are their odds of snagging meat better than in a terminal hatchery zone? Give them a legal option, in a location where they have very favorable odds, and even the poachers might go for it. Meanwhile, publish a clear set of definitions for attempted snagging in the regulations and enforce them strictly up and down the rest of the river. With little incentive to stray from the confined areas (and indeed plenty of dis-incentive to do the same), I think we could get snagging/flossing/etc. resasonably under control without sacrificing our ability to use terminal tackle for legitimate purposes.
I'm just trying (half seriously) to think outside the proverbial box. If something like this ever got implemented, I am sure I would live to regret it. After all, there must be devils lurking in the details of any proposal that invokes nausea in the one proposing it.

[ It's true, the thrill is in the pickup, the grab. For that there is no substitute. several years back i had a conversation about this exact subject. us bait guys were putting on a clinique. i finally told these 3 yutes that they are missing out some savage bites by not using any eggs. i could see they had a plastic container of store bought eggs. told them they were fools for not using them. as if on cue another bait guy sets into another beauty silver. i said it's not rocket science. they looked at each other, on said he would give it at try. he wasn't back in the water 5 mins when he got the savage bite too! i told the other yutes, guys with a shrug, see, pretty simple. basically floossers and snaggers suffer from simple minds.

make it illegal. i have great attorneys. ill still do it. Or pay the fine. but it wont come to that. ill get out of it. because its bogus, and very hard to prove. It's already illegal to intentionally floss in Washington. You're right, though, that it's hard to prove. Of course, if you're relying on great attorneys, they'll probably cost you more than the fine.

True dat Skyko. the majority of flossing that I have seen on the north coast is at 2 particular spots, NF nehalem hatchery stretch and 3 rivers deadline. I would rather stay home and shotgun 4 locos while playing world of warcraft than fish either of those stretches (still waiting to hear Abu's story about slamming the Locos).
However, I do think more of it goes on in the mid-valley streams like the S, Santiam and upper willamette. Not to mention that train wreck they call cedar cr.

Anu-Poonis. always jealous because i exercise my right to speech. year down the road you'll still be whining the same words. at least make it fun and come up with something new. ra-tard.
look how much effort goes into even a DISCUSSION about something that REAAAALLLLYYYY has very little impact on overall fish management. Flossing? really. guys. put your penis measuring sticks away. spend all this energy fixing the REAL problems.
your like the politicians worrying about gay marriages when our COUNTRY is falling apart.
im talking about flossing...not SNAGGING. but even then....metaphorically speaking...flossing and snagging, its like Anu-Poonis talking....it dont really matter in the whole scheme of things. You should be focusing on things that REALLY matter.

fishing to me is to get the fish to BITE! nothing else...that is my thrill...part of it is the fight...but most of it is the bite and the fish loving my eggs...i spend a lot of time and love into my eggs and there is nothing better than the bite...i will fish other methods but its all about the bite...learn how to fish, not floss...it is more rewarding...i just think there is a new breed out there that doesnt know how to fish any other way than snagging...that is what i cant stand they can go [censored] themselves

Snagglepuss is more of a troller than a flosser.

Not to be the devils advocate, but didn't someone earlier this year post a how-to floss while trolling in the salt? How is that any different than flossing in the rivers? There may be a small difference but it is still flossing is it not?
