Epic Fail Annoucement Pending...What a surprise!
Did any taxpayer really think this bunch of self-serving politicians could ever arrive at a solution to this nation's real problems?
The solution? ...Term Limits!

I actually thought it would work, proving once again that I'm far too optimistic that ANY of them are capable of solving problems. Foolish me.
Now I hear congress is going to try to "work around" the automatic cuts. Surely a grassroots organization will swell to punish any and all lawmakers that contribute to the work-around efforts... (by work around, I mean neutering, not actually doing the job the committee was supposed to do -- reducing the budget debt).
WHEN they try to work around the automatic cuts, I'll be curious (skeptical?) to see if the right is outraged or not. They say they want cuts, well here's 1.2T of them gift wrapped.

We just need to bring in more money to balance the budget, you know like getting it from .1% who own half of Americas net worth. That's 315,000 individuals.

Better than firing them. Take them out and shoot them on the White House Lawn and reconvene in a week. I bet we would get a result the second time around. If not repeat the process until there is an agreement.
This Congress must be the worst in the history of mankind.

probably. At least in the last 20 years:"...this Congress has enacted just 55 public laws so far this year (and 34 of them merely extended existing laws), compared with the average over the last 20 years of 148 public laws for a first full session."

Personally I think the super committee was designed to fail so neither party would have to take sole blame for defense spending cuts.
Poor Panetta, claiming cuts will hurt the Pentagon and he wont be able to deliver on their missions. I guess all those issues that led to Two trillion missing dollars announced back in '01 are all fixed now, and you are getting the most out of every dollar..... please!

Gutz,
What's your complaint? We have the best Congress money can buy! Money from the corporate elite who profit from putting the country in the sh!t can. The same people you seem to defend, if not idolize. WTF are you talking about? I idolize no one. You seem to be as daft as Todd. My complaint is that Congress can not get thier [censored] together enough to cut spending and raise taxes to get this Country back on the right track. A little balance in (and some leadership) Congress is all I would like to see.

Hard line Republicans refusing to raise taxes. Hard line Decomcrats refusing to reduce entitlements. Some of the same hard immovable positions many have taken here. There is no balance. Something needs to change. A few steps by each side back toward the middle would be nice to see.

We know this about Republicans and Democrats in Congress already.
What I'm asking is WHY do you think they're taking these "hard line, immoveable" positions in the first place?

Why is nobody crying fowl when the Republicans refusal to discuss any tax increase what so ever comes straight from a pledge to a DC lobbyist, Grover Norquist.
Why is the Congress of the United States being held hostage by a pledge to a DC lobbyist?
That question needs to be answered.

Gutz, to be correct, the Dems' *were* ready to compromise on entitlements, what they wouldn't compromise on was not having any new taxes as part of the plan.
There's an enormous difference between the party insisting that something is OFF the table (republicans) and the party insisting that *everything* has to be ON the table (dems).
This failure is a pox on all their (and our) houses, but I still believe what masquerades for a "conservative" party currently is an entirely unspooled echo chamber that boils all issues down to 3 word sound bites.

I think the Republicans couldn't have done more damage to themselves than by exiting the Super Committee without giving in to the "tax the rich" cry from everywhere. This seems beyond foolish to me, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it costs them dearly. I know that I am not all that gung ho on the tax the rich stuff, but there is some truth to the fact that it would be helpful. Couple that with a cut back on spending and we get er done. Fkn Politicians!!

The Republicans' strategy of blocking every deal suddenly doesn’t look so smart. So if Congress does nothing, two sequestration processes go into effect: A budget cut and a tax increase. These two measures will cut over $4.5 trillion from the U.S. deficit over the next 10 years. That’s more than the Simpson-Bowles Commission proposed. And as Ezra Klein points out, that’s $3 of tax increases for every dollar of spending cuts. http://globalpublicsquare.blogs.cnn.com/...-lot/?hpt=hp_c1Perhaps their overzealous genuflecting to a DC lobbyists self serving and treasonous pledge has back fired on them. To much grey area there? Fishy

How many republican presidents had deficit spending? All of them. In fact, of all the presidents in the last sixty years have had deficits. Harry Truman and Bill Clinton are the only two president in that time to have 3 years of consecutive balanced budgets (both were Democrats). The last Republican president to have a balanced budget was Richard Nixon in 1969. Each of the last 4 Republican presidents: Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush each set new deficit spending records during their administration's. Gerald Ford's record was a mere 60 billion dollars. Supercommittee member Pat Toomey proposed increasing tax revenues by $300 billion... Toomey. Yeah, his idea is to take the worst parts of the bush tax cuts and make them permanent, all while dropping the tax rate on the top 1% from 35 to 28%. In contrast, all those making less than $200K will see their taxes increase compared to current policy. Why is it that republicans are so intent on taking the most from those that have the least? Let me clue you onto something: Americans care where that sum is derived from.

voters prefer the Republican approach to closing the deficit — spending cuts only Sure they do...........until they have to name where the cuts will come from. They'll talk about a ketchup study, and foreign aid being slashed, and will still only be a couple trillion from closing the gap. It's kinda like the way an unnamed Republican will beat Obama in the upcoming election, but the RNC can't find a candidate with no name.

THE "NO NEW TAXES" MANTRA OF THE GOP IS ROTTING THE BOWELS OF OUR NATION'S INFRASTRUCTURE http://www.theliberalperspective.com/index.html?entry=no-new-taxes-gop-mantraThe Republicans are overdozing on debates. Unfortunately, as of this date, none of them appear qualified to be president of the United States or of any other major institution. It is obvious that none of candidates have won the hearts of their party's main stream. Republicans: If your mantra is no tax increases, why do you support eliminating the payroll tax deduction? Why the double standard? It's ok to raise taxes on the middle class but not the wealthy? UK: Republican mantra--lower taxes on the 'job creators' and no taxes on investments that the wealthy can afford--let the middle class and poor pay more The craze for flat taxes Republican candidates are competing to race to the lowest point Investment experts debunk the U.S. “no tax” mantra The all-cuts path favored by virtually every Republican in U.S. federal politics is clearly unreasonable, to such an extent that an increasing number of investment professionals have publicly rejected it. One is Martin Barnes, chief economist at Montreal-based BCA Research, an influential publisher of investment newsletters. http://blogs.montrealgazette.com/2011/08/22/investment-experts-debunk-the-u-s-no-tax-mantra/The GOP Has Become a Cult, And the Tax Cut Mantra is Their Jim Jones Kool Aid to America http://blog.buzzflash.com/node/12937ETC,ETC,ETC Fishy

GOP Candidate Clown Show Act Of The Day Man, watching the GOP race for President is like watching trains crash in your backyard every day. It's just bizarre how laughingly unqualified these candidates are. http://ken_ashford.typepad.com/blog/2011/11/gop-candidate-clown-show-act-of-the-day.htmlFishy

American Banksters join with sleazy DC lobbyist firm for shadowy action agains OWS! D.C.-based lobbying firm Clark Lytle Geduldig & Cranford (CLGC) created a shadowy plan to undermine Occupy Wall Street for the American Bankers Association for the substantial sum of $850,000. Essentially, the sixty day plan was to launch an all out smear campaign against the entire Occupy Movement http://blog.seattlepi.com/vivianmcpeak/2...le-pr-sabotage/Fishy

Just because the building crumbles does not mean that others "BUSH" did not do his utmost to tear at the foundation, making it all but unusable..
Your right Hank, ignorance knows no bounds just look in the mirror.

Nonetheless, voters prefer the Republican approach to closing the deficit — spending cuts only — by a 49–39 margin. Just to quantify a bit: White voters with a college degree support a mix of cuts and tax hikes 52 - 41 percent while white voters with no college degree want cuts only 55 - 33 percent.Kind of explains some of the rationale around here. BTW, since you're poll kinda guy, a couple of other polls show that 61% of American voters want the rich to pay more taxes to balance the budget, and 80% of voting Americans under 30 want the rich taxed more.

Simple interpretation conflict with the words, "Land of the Free". I'm all for it......it IS free, isn't it? I'm worth it, you know. If Joe is smarter than me, he should give me some. I mean it.

" A government that slants the game totally in favor of Peter is one that enslaves Paul" If only complex problems could be solved with simple platitudes then you Hank would be our man. Fishy

So what you're saying is that Paul is getting the Peter?
Sounds like he had better move a little faster.

Wow and only Billions and Billions of dollars and countless lives lost to an unfunded war in Iraq, but you don't hear one peep out of the likes of Hank about that total wastage!

I don't hear you whining and sniveling about the expenditures on the unfunded wars or the loss of life, only about some people exercising their constitutional rights.
