Hello and good morning. I just bought three dozen sand shrimp for a day that was supposed to red hottt...well it wasn't.
I still have 30 or so shrimp slowly dying on me. Anyone got any tips on how to cure sand shrimp? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Not a cure 'cause I often will fish them the next day.
I rinse with estuary water and drain on paper towels. Then replace the paper towels to keep them from suffocating on the collecting juices.

Salt, sugar, Borax, cure brine mixture just like eggs. I have some that work well and were done last year. Won't stay on as well of course but have caught several nook on them.
I agree that prawns and coon shrimp work a lot better.

See the shrimp cure recipe by Phil Stephens at Steelhead University, it's fast, easy and it works for him.

I just throw them out and buy new ones the next day. If I want to cure a shrimp, it will be a prawn or coon stripe since they hold scent and color extremely well and don't fall apart once you thaw them. And like anything, you want to cure them when they are as fresh as possible...if they already smell like piss I would toss them and not bother. Whats a dozen sandshrimp cost, $4? This. I have never seen a cured sand shrimp that inspired confidence. You can't cure water and their water content is high.

I don't know what it is that they get. I have tried to cure mine but they always dye. I think it might be some kind of virus.

Save the headache...........just buy prawns by the 2 pound package, get them home....put enough in snndwich baggies to last a day of fishing, (I do 6 prawns but filet them for 12 baits). Then they go in freezer. Night before I fish, take them out of freezer, put lot's of shimp oil on them.....you're good to go!!!!!! Prawns will fish almost as good as fresh sand shrimp but will out fish frozen sand shrimp 50 to 1.
51-60 size, normally in 2 pound package, works good for me.....get them on sale...works out to about 240 baits for around $10.00.
For sure they will "stay on" much better than sand shrimp!!!!!!

I have chopped them up, tied them in spawn sacks and covered them with shrimp oil before freezing. They work just as good as eggs and I dont feel like I am wantonly wasting a living creature. I agree prawns work also but sand shrimp are king.
