Can someone explain why, except for blind allegiance to a party, that the folks in the middle ground don't work together?

The coastal democrats are generally pretty moderate folks. Hatfield was instrumental in getting the suppressor legislation passed earlier this year. There are a number of these folks who do not tow the party line and actually vote based on the wants and needs of the folks who put them into office.

I would like to see more middle of the road folks on both sides of the aisle in Olympia.
