Has any one been out there? The state was going to rebuild the old ramp, and put in a fishing dock. I belive October was the dead line for the funding that was aproved.

Would this be the old ramp?? I know the city of Tacoma owns most of the lake property. Great lake for kids to fish.

I think the old ramp is on champion property on the east side of the lake...

been 6 or 7 years since the state claimed that it had reached an access agreement with this timber company and was looking for funds to build the ramp.... they also said it was the "number one priority" in the department.....

personally though, I don't think they should build the ramp... lake gets lots of use as it is.....

they should simply upgrade the shore access options and allocate more enforcement resources to this great fishing lake.......

make it a haven for the "boatless ones".... this is the most underserved constituency in the sport fishing community...

The old public ramp was on the North side of the lake. I'm not sure what was over on the east side looked like some kind of private picnic area?? There's suppose to be an old train on the bottom of the lake? Rumor? "Number one priority of Dept" WOW!

I stopped by the WDFW booth at the sportsman show yesterday and asked one of the guys there about the Lake Kapowsin ramp he told me that it should be done sometime this summer, but of course I will believe it when I see it, I have E-mailed the wildlife dept. twice over the last couple of years asking about this project and both times have got back rosy letters complete with a start dates and completion dates and both times the dates have come and gone with nothing getting done, maybe the third time's the charm. smile

My motorized lake boat is a jet sled so no prop worries, but I'd be mighty careful just the same. Thanks for the head's up. Maybe this summer the ramp will be a reality. We should all stop by the WDFW booth and ask about the ramp. If they get multiple requests it might get their notice.

good info dark spawner..

I've fished Kapowsin many times... I park about mid
lake on the road that parallels the west shore... there's a spot to park but you can't see the lake from there..... I drag my canoe about a quarter mile to the lake.... right across from where I put the canoe in there a grassy area the looks like it used to be a park or day use area or something.. I've always assumed that this was where the old ramp was......

North end of the lake is "bog water" and where the outlet is... the east shoreline between the old park I was referring to and the "bog water" is fairly steep rip rap as I recall..... the NW Shoreline is where Erickson's is located...

but there is a "rampy" looking spot just south of ericksons.. can be accessed from the public highway used to get to ericksons...

Just wondering if that's the spot you are referring to........

wouldn't take much to convert that into a ramp...

The old public ramp was just before (West)of Erickson's. Not much of a ramp, but good for car toppers and small row type boats. Used to live near by and I used a 12' aluminum boat. Not sure if I would use a motor, but by now I would think most of the old stumps have rotted away or are soft? Maybe not.

Totally submerged wood does not decay very fast at all. Those stumps will be there long after you and I are ashes in the wind.
Also just before the old ramp is a drunken, 4x4, shooting park now. You might think twice if you value your life more that fish.

well.. that does make a little more sense d_s...

you're right.. not much of a ramp... just sort of
a short run of gravelly beach with an easy slope
into the water........

now I'm wondering why it's taken WDFW so long to
put this thing together...... couple of days work
with a D-8, a dozen loads of rock, and a few of those concrete ramp things and we are in business...

total cost shouldn't be more than $20 or $30K....

Given "free reign" I could get it done for under $10k, but nobody get's free reign anymore... State is obligated to find the most expensive possible way to do anything they need to get done....

Kapowsin boat ramp, I talked to a dude from Olympia about 2 months ago. Owen something or another. Funding was approved for the ramp. Building was supposed to start last month, but you all remember the rain? Orville Road got a bit washed out which delayed the start. Supposedley, building was going to start there in the spring. And be finishied by August or Sept. That was the latest I got. Looks like a great fishery. Has the chance to produce what I think will be state record sized Bass and my favorite~ Crappie. Hope this helps. Hold on to that pole!!

Loc: Tacoma Wa,
Yes, there is a new state record LMB in there. I have seen the future. If your looking to hold a state record The rock bass is very much a record that could be done, if a guy set out to do it.

Late September I was minding my own business Tossing a 1/2oz white spinnerbait when a dinner plate size crappie ruthlessly attacked my spinnerbait not once but twice. It's tuff, even for a big crappie to get a 1/2oz spinnerbait with a trailer into it's mouth. Not that it did not try. The one time I wished I had a beatlespin on.

It's a great fishery. as long as you don't hook a missing body, you don't get shot, and you don't mind running your boat up on a couple of stumps.

Also great lake for jet skier's rofl

Years ago their used to be another resort on the lake that you accessed via the highway that goes to Ohop....kapowsin resort??? Camping, store, boatrentals, alot nicer than Ericksons. Closed down and never re-opened. Anyone remember that one?? I cut my teeth bass fishing on Kap lake back in the early 70's. Fishing seemed better back then, but then again I haven't fished it for nearly 15years.
