I've not much steelhead or salmon fishing in rivers (mostly a troller in the salt) so I've never really geared up for it. I recently bought a Shimano Symetre 4000 reel (selected for reasonable value and ability to handle fairly heavy fish). What rod would the crew here suggest I pair this with? I'm thinking most for spoon tossing and the occasional float fishing excursion. The reel is a bit heavy (IMO) for jig fishing.

I was thinking about a getting a St. Croix WS86MHF2 or perhaps a WS106MMF2. Comments/suggestions?

float rod
summer drift rod.
spoon rod.

I have several 4000 series. Weight isnt a big deal. They hold more line and the surface area is larger. I expect a longer cast out of them. I also round off the front edge and the finish is smoother than MFG with 2000 grit. The metal spools tend to get dinged up compared to the plastic.

Yes - that's usually my plan. Not always the outcome but generally the plan.

A used Lami X 10 MS would be a sweet pairing in my mind, and would cover the mentioned techniques well.

I used to fish with my 4000 but I would tire out after a few hours. Stil early in my marriage so I don't have forearms like some of you older gents. I use 2500s and if I need more line I use a bc.

Put a penny in the jar every time you have sex during the first year. Take a penny out every time thereafter. The jar will never go empty (says the strong armed guy who's been married 30 years).

You know you have been with a woman too long when the only reason for her to go down on you is so you get 10 minutes of quiet time

Gee I don't know.... there are many ways to buildup the ol' forearms. Wouldn't want to rule out alternative explanations.

Maybe the old guys getting fatter with age are still gettin' just as much as ever.... only they're building up those forearms hovering over their honey so's to keep from crushing her.
