Can we use them on the wet side? If so where do we buy them?

I read where leeches and earthworms smell the same to fish (beats me which fish told the reporter that) so using leeches may not be a big advantage over worms. Other than leeches being tougher and staying on the hook longer.

Experiment
Used leeches on Lake Tapps for Small Mouth Bass.
Well I tried the leeches on a small jig head and fished them the same way as I fished a jig with plastic craw.
Leeches 0 fish caught
Plastic Craw 3 fish caught

Pluses
Much more lively in the water.

Minuses
The leeches kept tearing off the hook.
Had to be very gentle on the cast or leech would get hooked in the middle.
My fingers got cold from picking them out of the water filled container.
My wife hated the thought that they were in the boat.
As you can see I think this was a waste of fishing time and money.
Leeches not recomended for fishing for bass on the wet side of the hills.

Using leeches is better in warmer waters. In cold water, they tend to ball up and not give any action. The best ways of using leeches is single hook with sliding sinker, floating jig head with sliding sinker, or slip bobber. For the first two, toss out and slowly work back in. The whole point of a leech is that it flutters in the water very seductively.

We use leeches a lot up in Wisconsin for Smallmouth. In my experience, leeches seem to work best on slip bobber rigs, or some sort of hook with sliding sinker. Usually, we just straight line them so you don't have to worry about them coming off the hook.

The nice thing about leeches when compared to worms, is, they seem to scare off the smaller panfish, and only the decent size panfish and bass will have the courage to bite them.
