And let's face it, Sage sure can't look to PNW for support needed to bring back these great rods.

That appears to be true but let's face it, at nearly $500 a pop for a finished rod they kinda priced themselves out of contention. A lot of fishermen struggle with Loomis, Lamiglas, St. Croix prices. For Sage to go above and beyond by $100+ .....well, many just drew a line in the sand.

I still love the 2 I wrapped though(290F & SP196) and have no regrets with the purchase of the blanks. Customizing and doing my own saved me quite a bit off the finished product price.

the original guy (Brian) that designed these rods has cooked up a deal to use the Sage Gear name from Sage and is going to produce them himself. Sage is doing a special run of blanks for him in the models that sold best in Canada and he is building these up to the original spec's to sell to 10 or dealers in Canada and so far there will be no product available in the U.S. At present pace stock will not hit dealer shelves until early summer.

Hey guys,

Sea-Run Fly & Tackle here.

Sage Gear Blanks will be coming out sometime in the late spring. Sage will not be building the rods as factory rods, but just producing the BLANKS. From there, you have the option to either buy the blanks, or have them built either factory or custom style through Brian Babcock. There will be many models available at that time, although the exact models and price are yet to be known. Once we know the exact blanks and the price of them, we will keep you updated.

***All CT blanks will be green, All SA Blanks will be blue***

ALTHOUGH, here is a list of blanks that are available to be built custom NOW: (Won't be sold as just blanks)

- CT: 490, 386, 390, 2106
- SA: 4110

Will the blanks have the same modulous as the originals, or are they a special blend spun up just for you folks?

The rods coming out through Brian Babcock are the newer modulous green blanks.

Just to clarify things for everybody on the forum, the new run of Sage Gear Blanks and custom rods that Brian Babcock will be selling through Sea-Run Fly & Tackle are EXACTLY the same as all previous Gear Blanks that have been produced before. The only difference is the "New" Sage Gear Blanks are dipped in a green or blue die, instead of the original brown.

If anyone has any questions about these rods, feel free to message back on the forum, e-mail us searuntackle@telus.net , or give us a call 1-(604)-931-5044.

Thanks,
Sea-Run Fly & Tackle

- $600 built, w/ top of the line components

There was only one of the 2106 available, and there is a sale pending on it at the moment.

You can contact us at the store at 1-(604)-931-5044 if you would like to leave your name and number in case something falls through.

Once again, that is the BUILT rod, not just the blank.

Thanks,
Sea-Run Fly & Tackle

In talking to Sage, there seems to be some discrepancy. They are claiming that the rods that Brian is building are the newer modulus graphite as opposed to the previous run of the browns. According to the rep I spoke with, the older brown blanks vs the newer green ones is more than just a dye. The graphite is different as well.

The mandrels may be the same, however, the graphite is different according to the information they have passed along.

graphite III vs graphite IIIe (green). Green is higher modulus and faster action.
