I'm wondering what the tragedy is. The Powell case is a tragedy for the kids, not the adult who knew what he was doing. She had opportunities to clean up that many of us don't. She could skip a few paychecks to go into treatment where many of us would be evicted for missing a couple payments. Not saying she had control over it, we all know that's not how it works. But, she's nothing more than another druggy who continually f'd up her own life.

There are plenty of issues that turn my stomache every day, this doesn't even register.

I didn't drink any alcohol during the 12 weeks ( 6 weeks at a time) that I was on painkillers after my 2 knee replacements. First replacement I was prescribed oxycodone. Second replacement I was prescibed oxycotin, oxycodone, and tramadal. A person has to have alot of self disipline when it comes to using painkillers. They are a tool to help in healing,

And I guess we don't know the dosage she was taking and if she was actually following the dosage prescribed. .5mg of Xanax TID (three times daily) is a lot different than 2mg of Xanax at one time washed down with a cocktail.

Chuck, your comments indicate you do not understand or know anything about addiction. As far as being tragic, she has an 18 year old daughter who has lived the train wreck life her mother gave her, but now she's a girl without her mom. Shoulda, coulda, woulda, she's still dead.

No, my comments don't indicate what you said. And I'd venture to say that I might know more about addiction than you do, but you're entitled to your opinion.

Anyone that has been thru treatment knows the facts of their addiction and the % of those that actually conquer their addiction is less than 5% , so think about it 95% of the true addicts in stage 3 are going to die from their addiction eventually, sad but true, Rest in peace Whitney!!!PEACE

Oxycontin is Oxycodone, just in a higher MG per dose... regular Oxycodone, mixed with Tylenol is Percocet, Oxycontin has no acetomenaphin in it, its just straight Oxycodone... Oxycontin is what generally gets people hooked on Heroin, because they graduated from taking regular Percocets, to taking Oxys, then the Oxy doesnt get them high anymore, so they move on to Heroin... its a viscous opiate, and shouldnt be taken if you dont need it...

I wonder what makes us experts on Whitney's drug problem?
All we really have to go on is the media and they have a rep. for getting
it wrong.
To me the guy that should have been on the 'get her healed train' is
her husband, Bobby Brown. But that's just my narrow point of view.
Drug dependency is an illness and should be treated as such. Alcoholism, the same.
You have the ability to say NO, however those that are beyone logical
thought processes don't have that ability.
Legalizing drugs won't fix it, Obama care won't fix it. It is possible for
'we the people' to fix it. But we won't.

She had a beautiful voice 'til drugs and Cigarettes took it.
RIP Whitney.

I'm going to puke if I hear that song again.

Well actually she was divorced from Bobby Brown a few years ago and he was more likely than not the start of her addiction.

It's my understanding (and I don't have the stats to back this up) that the success (failure?) rate of cleaning up druggies and drunks is about the same, whether they volunteer or are forced into rehab. Both are like tornados, going through their lives tearing up the scenery and leaving others to pick up their mess'.

they had a daughter.
I too have heard that he was the idiot that turned her on to drugs.
No way to prove that, and if so, it isn't taken as the crime it is,
in this society.

Gov. Christie defends lowering flags for Houston

Some people in the Heartland are upset at the idea of flying American flags at half-staff in honor of Whitney Houston.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is ordering flags in his state to be flown at half-staff in honor of Whitney Houston on Saturday, the day of her funeral. He says he's not honoring her as a role model, but a daughter of New Jersey.

I don't like the idea of lower flags for her, and I don't get how the idea even got considered. Ridiculous. I rather see Bobby Brown strung up a flagpole.

Avid.....many who go into rehab do it in order to avoid other consequences...and they do it without wanting to be there. Some change their mind as they detoxify, but many do not. Was talking with the owner of an upper end outfit here locally...the place is very expensive and caters to the well to do. He said that he estimates only about a 50% recovery rate, even when a ton of jing is thrown down.

There ya' have it; the power of faith. Actually I don't mean to denigrate it. Whatever works for people committed to beating their personal demons.

Enough said.
Few things in life are an "everybody wins" scenario.......getting clean and sober for a problem addict/drunk is one of those.
