you like carrying around 14 rods with you to fish? Nope. When I'm banking it I always have my float rod and my spoon/drift rod. Now when I'm in the DB with two buddies thats a whole different story. Talk about a cluster fuk of rods and tackle!

Didnt you leave your float rod in the truck at reiter when you got that 1st spoon fed turd? Nope. I'd never go to reiter without a float rod and I'd never leave any rods in my rig at reiter. You're thinking of my post about my after work drift gear fish I hooked a while back. I wasn't at reiter that day and my rig was parked within earshot of me so leaving the float rod in the truck was no biggie. When I hooked the spoon fed turd my float rod was next to me on the bank.

Anyway, back to the task at hand. Fishing pink worms under a float aside from bobber dogging and fishing them on jig heads...

Since I started out float fishing with mono and then switched to braid and found out how beautifully it mends I see no reason to switch. I'm not center pinning...yet...til then I'll keep using braid. Braid is the only way to go when float fishing. There is no reason not to use it. Mending mono and sinking line sucks. The memory in the braid also helps keep the line from doing wraps around your rod tip while mending.

Drew, don't over think the rigging and be overly concerned with stealth towards the end of your line, especially in typical winter conditions. Low and clear/summer, sure, making a few changes and trying to dial up the stealth a bit can benefit you.
This time of year, I typically fish an 18" to 20" leader below my keel sinker with braid for a mainline and fish eat stuff on the end of that more than enough to keep me happy.
As for methods besides jig heads and bobber dogging, I think a few have mentioned the worm/egg sinker/baitweight option. This is convenient if you pre-rig your worms on leaders and tend to switch back and forth between dragging the bottom and float fishing as you can switch a corky for a sinker pretty quick on your leaders. I powder coat (pink of course) small worm sinkers and egg sinkers that work well for this application and for bait under bobber rigs also.

HUH? I found the opposite to be true. Braid doesn't float as well or as high as a good mono and it is has zero memory so it will wrap around the rod tip a lot. The main advantage to braid is no stretch in my experience. This is good for hooking them on long drifts but not so good for putting the wood to the fish where a little cushion can help.

Perhaps there is some variation in floating characteristics between manufacturers of braided line?
I fish power pro exclusively. For float fishing in particular, it is far superior to mono with regard to fishability. Floats higher, easier to cast, easier to mend, easier to catch up to fish on a long drift due to no stretch, etc.

I believe the sinking braids are aimed toward european carp fishers. If you try to buy cheap bulk braids online this is what you are most likely to get. Fine for vertical jigging but not much else.

+100, I thought the hydro float sucked as the coating was pretty easy to just cut / scrape off. Drew

Hydrofloat is (was?) the worst abortion of an idea anyone has ever had in the realm of fishing line concepts.
