Slab,
  Check your math.
Even a buck sixty would not be accurate as there was no mention of what the actual shortfall is after tribe contribution, free labor, etc.
Think more information is needed to know what actual cost per fish is.

in the last thread that was started about this, someone said that it was only 25k for food... now they are saying 400k... for just food...
big difference between 25k and almost a half million dollars... wonder if the people that were talked to didnt know, or didnt want to let out how much was actually needed..
either way, this is going to hurt alot of people, Indians included...

$400,000 was a surprise for sure, has to be for more than just food I'd think......

State wages are a joke for flinging food pellets. And the state wonders why it's bankrupt! Yeah, I think most fish food flingers would agree 2many, with a low end pay scale of $2113 per month and topping out at $2642 per month. I bet it would be fun to support a family of two on that let alone fuel up the sled- Its not the fish food flingers that are making the state bankrupt-

Moravec - That might have been funny except financial woes just caused the 49% interest owners (non-tribal) of Great Wolf Lodge to sell out to another non-tribal investment outfit. So I guess Great Wolf Lodge is off the "Great Savior" list.
  6X? Really????

They always pick the Humptulips hatchery because they know it will stir up the most anger among sportsfishers. I remember at least 4 times over the last 25 years WDFW threatening to shut down the Hump hatchery. Why not shut down Grays or Elocoman or Nemah...etc. The Hump gets the most pressure and highest catch rate. WDFW just wants us to contact the politicians or private groups to help with funding.
Its politics with fish and I say its bullsh-t.

I think we start a Save the Hump Fund. We need to think outside the box. How much purina trout chow do we need from BIO-Oregon in longview to make this happen. I'm a barely working carpenter with disabled wife. I here by pledge $100. Maybe call Ellen DeGeneres or Oprah or something. This state is beyond ridiculous when it comes to manageing anything. I know, there are people who say their tax dollars are just being mismanaged. Let's all put up or shut up. It's at $100, who's next?

I would pitch in money but I paid 50 dollars for the Humptulips Endorsement to a bearded fellow outside of Wal-Mart. He said I got the first one in the State.

Ah, my thought was just to let all see the TV spot for information. Much of the other stuff here has been beat on in another thread so no need to go there but I think I will throw this out and hopefully we think before beating out profanity on the key board but I doubt it. So I will put these points out to look at. Salmon only.
First what would the impact to the IN RIVER sport fishery be if the Humtulips Hatchery shut down? Chinook Not much? Big time? I think maybe not much. Big effect on non treaty net as that would do them under. In fact it would reduce the impacts to Chehalis bound Chinook as give or take 20% of the Hump targeted non treaty Chinook end up being Chehalis. It would reduce QIN tribal fishing as the river would have to be managed natural spawners only. So sports loose hatchery fish, but we loose the non treaty nets so that brings the sports share back up, even up?
Coho? Clueless as I do not have a feel for that fishery but it certainly would be reduced. Commercial out so does it impact the quality of the sport fishery? The tribe would be reduced to be sure and ain't no way a non treaty net would be a go, so good? Bad?
This ends up being the question. If WDF&W continues utilize the hatchery production for primarily the QIN and the non treaty nets then what is the benefit to the in river sportsman? Remove the hatchery production which removes the non treaty nets, requires the QIN & WDF&W to manage for wild populations only, is the in river fishery better or worse? No hatchery no C&R for marked fish in years of low returns so reduced harvest but would not that happen anyway? Think about it. This is a math thing.
At present WDF&W R-6 and the QIN regard the in river sport fishery as a secondary targeted fishery that utilizes the escapement as the population fished. The goal is to harvest every fish above the escapement goals BEFORE they get up river to the sports. So with taxes and licenses you foot the bill and WHO gets the benefit?
  Have fun.
