They must be topwater spinners or maybe you could trade them for pinners.

Yeah, I saw a picture of one in an old STS mag I have. Wanted to try one, but couldn't find any, so I made my own...

Not familiar with pinners, but I basically plan on fishing them more like a conventional drift rig than a conventional spinner....

You might want to think twice before hucking those babies into the drink!

Apparently some others are also fired up about old school okies...

Glad I got a big stash before the Ebay bidders went crazy.

I think they are over-hyped as a lure. Sure they work but so do lots of things. I'm waiting for the Shimano Bantams to be the next hot Ebay seller since The General has also touted them for years.

Not familiar with pinners,

Funny S right there ......If you want to get familiar with them just go to the next Snoopdogg or Phish event and you will be in the know. or just look up Jonas Quinault on FB and tell him you have a space heater and a 10 speed bike to trade, he might hook you up with a pinner or 2.

I think you should double stack 'em.

Just ask Parker.

This whole Okie craze is just fun to watch.
I had some of the old colors reversed engineered in China and they came out great.
Maybe I need to go back over and get a few hundred thousand made again. I think 10 years ago I paid about 3 cents each so maybe 5 cents today.

After looking at the eBay price I gotta say that something is afoot.

Is it possible people are bidding up their own auctions to make those things even more expensive? It has got to be happening. Who in their right mind would pay nearly 20$ an Okie? You could make them yourself for a lot less than that. You could get all the equipment for 800$. It is dumb. People are dumb. So in conclusion, it is nothing new.

You don't think those would be better rigged in tandem?

There was a thread about the okies on ifish that talked about Jake Nelson, some 16 year old kid that Northwest wild country had on their show, and he posted that he's been buying a bunch off ebay recently..Showed a pic of him in their studio with a box full of them..Looks like someone has some money as the kid is all decked out in Simms gear..He said [Those okies are truely something special] and that he just bought 20 fingernail pinks for 350.00 and that he has over 300 translucent and 80 nail polish pinks and still growing.....He uses a different type of weight system than most people so that he doesn't lose them is what he said. Didn't say what it was though....

My guess is he uses piano wire wrapped through surgical tubing as a weight, with 80 lb. Tuffline main line and 65 lb. mono leader and fine wire hooks....

Judging by Nelson's prominence the NW Wild Country web page and his apparent devotion to Herzog (not that I can really talk), I would guess he is using Herzog's "Okie Weight System:" 1/8" hollow-core lead threaded and pinched onto spinner shafts. That weigh system was featured on their radio show and a video on their web page. There was also a thread on PP here about two years ago that showed the set-up, started by someone from NW Wild Country.

I have tried this set-up myself, and it works amazingly well for not losing gear, especially for guys like me who prefer the feel of lead over slinkies.
