A buddy and I fished the halibut opener Thursday with not a bump on Hein bank. Hein bank turned real ugly by the afternoon. So we moved in and took cover at McCurdy bank, a few bottom hook up’s but nothing . On Friday fished McCurdy bank, water was somewhat sloppy most of the morning so when a friend FullHouse reported there was some flat water behind Protection Island we ran up there and fished out the day. Saturday it was blowing on the banks when we got up so we took cover on the inside at an undisclosed area. Not but 10 minutes into the morning my buddy Don hooks up (NO) not the bottom this time “although it felt like the bottom” with a few head shakes the battle was on. After a 40 minute battle we were able to harpoon it, bleed it and still he took one 9mm through the head before we were able to settle him down to get him on board. We had no scale big enough on hand and no one at the marina with anything to weigh it with so we went to the book, Google, and here at Bob’s great weight chart he added. Do you agree with these charts, if so with a measurement 40 minute after the catch at 65 inches we have a 140 lb give or take halibut caught in a new honey hole in Area 9 (Admiralty inlet)
