I'm interested in whether a majority of Americans will take enough notice of other nations failing financially to take positive actions domestically. Doing so would requiring both the Democratic and Republican members of Congress and the administration to drastically modify their legislative behavior. And I don't see that happening because those calling the shots, the 0.001 percenters and global mega-corporations will think they are above it all and will be able to ride it out and land wherever it's safe.
I'm with you salmo. Party allegiance needs to take the back seat when it comes to situations like this. It will never happen because if it doesn't work then those that cross party lines will be burned at the cross. What a great country we live in, where our public servants and more aligned with private constituants than the countrymen that pay their salaries and elects them.

Solution to our DC problems:
Every year We The People vote to have one congressman or senator burned at the stake on world wide Pay Per View until the budget is balanced and zero debt. The added bonus will be the new found bipartisonship in the majorities favor.

Viable solutions to the DC problem require an understanding of the global debt-based currency system. The deepening EU economic meltdown will likely foretell of a similar series of events in the US.
There will be violence, both by those caught in the debt trap, and those imposing the creditor's control over them.... Why else would DHS purchase hundreds of millions of rounds of ammo?
Greece just keeps selling bonds (sovereign debt), and the creditors keep buying 'em, creating their paramount claim to Greece's lock, stock & barrel. Where have I heard that one before? The unfolding sovereign debt debacle will make the mortgage debt debacle look like *the good ol' days.*
A currency war has been going on for a fair spell, given Iraq and Libya. Similar sanctions against Iran are an act of economic warfare, with post-sanction Iran now selling its oil to China and India for...
wait for it...

Perhaps, the BRIC countries are shifting the ongoing currency war(s) into a trade war. Perhaps, along with everything else, the US and the dollar will lose when the hundreds of trillions in derivatives go to schit in the blink of an eye. Perhaps, we'll all be renters on the remaining plantation, if it doesn't glow.....
Maybe there is nothing new under the sun. Maybe taking a gander at Genesis 40 to that Book's end could give some insight into possible outcomes for the discerning of mind.....

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

It's not pretty but it sure is ugly.
These kind of of things typically do result in some kind of domino effect.
I'm encourage by the way politicians around the world have stepped up to correct the policies that have led the world to this monetary cliff, though.

Hank,
Your sarcasm points to human nature - for the majority - world-wide is to run from problems rather than solving them. Seriously, if we accidentally elected problem-solvers (in any of the nations) who then undertook the measures necessary to solve economic problems, they would be bounced out of office the next election. Much as we all want to blame someone, especially the political parties we disagree with philosophically, hardly anyone will vote against their pocketbook, near-term or long-term.
Maybe the answer is to make office terms a one time only thingy (for Dan's benefit as he likes that word ). Then at least, there wouldn't be any prepping for the "next term".....and there would be less time to get the corrupt old a-holes entrenched.

We're just reaping what we've sown for the last 50 years.
Apparently, it's become more important to know who Snookie is than who the Prime Minister of Britain is. Apparently, whether Clinton got a blowjob is more important that what the unemployment rate and GDP growth are. Apparently, whether or not George Bush actually served in the TANG 30 years ago is more important than whether we can afford to go to war in the middle east. Apparently, whether Obama is a Muslim is more important than the fact that we threw billions at the banks so they could continue on with business as usual per JPMC.
We're doomed by our own lack of attention and apathy. We care about things that don't matter and don't care about things that do.
I hope I'm wrong and we right the ship and get back to better times.
