Hey,
I am going to strip a few flies for pike. Does anyone have any ideas about something I can attach to the end of my leader so that pike won't bite my fly off? I would rather not cast a wire leader with a fly rod, though I am sure I can get it done if necessary. I was considering using a short length of 40 or higher pound monofilament. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Eric

P.S. If you have some experience fishing for pike and know some flies that work well, post a picture of them or tell me about em. I wasn't that worried as I have caught pike on every foreign object I have ever thrown in the lake...

From Rio's site

TOOTHY CRITTER LEADERS
7.5 ft (2.3 m), .027 inches (0.737 mm) butts with an ultra stiff 15 lb tippet for casting big flies.

For pike, bluefish, barracuda and similar species
Each tapered leader has a shock tippet of nylon-coated stainless steel wire with a small stainless steel snap to change flies easily, or thin brown Vectran wire you can tie a knot in.

As for flies...big ones.

Rio also has coated wire tippet material you can attache to leaders you already have or make yourself. Heavy mono isn't dependable; it just depends on how the pike bites. I used deer hair mouse patterns for pike in AK, and they were eager to crush them.
