Anyone ever hunt the late season up by loomis or conconully. I keep hearing that there are some monster mulies running around up there. I will probably give it a shot, but thought I'd ask for some input from you guys and gals.

Thanks
Glow

Yes there are a few nice rackers up there but be prepared to walk some but it is worth it also keep your eyes open for the occasional nice whitetail.

I from that area originally and wish I could hunt there again.

Let me know how you did and if nothing else email me and I can help you out more.

Hey Glowball…

Well… My Buddy and I went up to Conconully last year, the last two weeks of the early bow season, we saw several really nice 3 points. Right in town! In yards eating flowers and apples. We went scouting north of Conconully up the Sinlahekin Valley towards Loomis. This area is made up of a flat valley floor with some smaller terraces that have scattered trees. The valley floor is used by the Mage Department as food growing plots for winter feed for the migratory Mule deer that come down from Canada and the HIGH plateaus above the valley. We saw several dozen spike and 2 points with bunches of does at the edges of the fields just before dark and some early morning. We also say several dozen white tales in with some of the mule deer.

Then we went up to Loomis to check it out as well. You go through Loomis north and turn onto Toats Coulee Road. Then you will drive towards a ridge and there are several farms on the left hand side of the road the road wraps to the left along the steep canyon wall look up at the bluff because there are always deer up on that bluff. It is an interesting game that some hunters play. EVERY morning the deer on the low bluff will cross the road to the farm fields and then every evening the cross back to the bluff. This process repeats itself EVERY day and night. When you come to the dirt road that goes up the STEEP ridge you can go up there and hunt… lots of area and lots of nice animals. You can also just stay on the lower road and drive around the lower road and out and there is some nice area out that way that you can either hike up or scope and then try and intercept the deer coming down off the top.

It is a great area but some parts of it are crowded.

We went back up in the late season last year because we figured with the mild weather we wouldn’t freeze to death. This area according to some of the locals and several other hunting friends say this area in a cold and snowy winter can really test the toughest hunter with cold and snow. If you are going to hunt it in the late season Be Prepared!!

Good luck if you go up that way!!!

Thanks a bunch for the replies.

How did the late season turn out for you wabowhunter?

I'd like to get one of those nice mulies, but those whitetails taste so good I wouldn't cry too much if I got a fat doe.

Lots and lots of deer. Now...the weather is the most important factor for the bowhunters. You'll be driving by some of the best country in the state though on your way to the Okanogan.

NE Chelan County has some absolute pigs!!! Plus alot of them are "local" deer, so you're not as dependent on the migration (like the Okanogan) if it's a light winter year. The rut always gets those big boys a runnin' around and there's alot of them. If you'd like some more info, let me know.

Fishaday what were you driving? I was there on the 28th&29th. Didn't see a whole heck of a lot. We messed around up by tonasket and the loomis valley. Lots of does but I didn't see any big bucks up there. Seen some down south though. Oh well there's always next year.

I spent a little time there too. Seen a real nice buck on someones wood pile. How did you do? What did you think of the icy roads on your way back down the mt. We come down one hill up crum canyon that my buddy got out and was gonna walk to wenatchee to get chains cause he was so scared. I ended up driving down, but I wasn't at all happy about it. Needless to say he bought the beer that night.

Ill second that icy road fear, it was bad!

I didnt connect but I got a shot at one real nice buck about a 25-26" 4x4 but I missed.

I saw between 75-85 bucks in 5 days and chased some real monsters around.

Kinda crowded but it was better away from the roads.
