Hey fellow hunters-
I was just wondering your opinions about the taste of bear meat. I have never tried it, Ive heard from some that it is tasty and others say it is flat out nasty. I have been hesitant to hunt them because of this issue.

just like anything else they taste like their diet, ive ate a few, had some that was allright and had some that was a little skunky, it was great when you could still bait then you could load em up on grains...

A buddy of mine shot one and had most of it turned into sausage and pepperoni sticks. Some of the best stuff I've ever had. But then again, you can turn just about any meat into sausage and it will taste okay.

In Central Washington, they're GREAT!!! If well taken care of, it's very similar to beef.

I am with fishstik....it depends on their diet. Also the younger bears tend to taste a little better.

What a coincidence, a woman in my office brought in bear jerkey today from a bear that her husband shot in BC. His brine had pepper and tabasco in it so it had a bite to it but it sure was good. (I was supposed to share and so far only had to give up one piece).

Since they are related to pigs (distantly) it is more like wild pork than beef (in my opinion).
You have to be really careful though, because like swine they carry Trichinosis and if undercooked it will pass on to you......
