Upper Skagits did really well yesterday. "Really well" is kode for finished out their allocation, and possibly a few extra.

20 is a steal for fish that haven't been bled, sat dead in a boat, then marinated in a tote with slimy dead fish.

If jonas and Romulous's great grandma has a birthday they will keep the nets in for celebratory fishing. wink

The tribe has been netting the Baker River and litterally been taking truckloads, yes I said truckloads out. Truck holds 25K and if you figure 4# average, thats over 6K sockeye per truck.
Last I checked, they has 2K at the dam and had 330 in the lake.
Have they met their escapement ? No!
Here's a thought, why not make sure you have enough fish to maintain the run FIRST !!!
Remember the big article in one of the Seattle papers pimping the Baker lake and how great the sockeye fishing is? Sure make people want to go out and buy licenses doesn't it ?? Ya step right up sucker.

Just another example of mismanagement by the state and the tribes sticking it to the man!!!

There is now 1120 sockeye in the lake

does anybody know the netting schedule? Mainly when it's "supposed" to end? edit: I called the hotline again. The recording says nothing about the net schedule for the baker. netting will continue in the skagit and out in the bay until July 14th. that's all I know.

Steeliedrew,

The netting by the Swinomish and Sauk-Suiattle in the lower river has a low catch rate, extremely low compared to the Upper Skagits, which explains why they have the longer season. Don't sweat it. If the run is as forecast, sockeye will be pouring into the Baker daily for the next 10 days and beyond. And if it isn't, then make other plans.
