It is basically an 8mm, and given the success of that caliber, I'd think of going with something else. . .

I don't own one, but I've read up on them some.

I don't see anything that's not to like in the caliber. Ballistically, it's superior to the .338 Win Mag, but you can get it in a short action. Shoots way flat. Packs big punch. They say it's an inherently accurate cartridge. Winchester is putting big bucks into the WSM line, so I suspect they'll be around for a while.

If I needed another weapon in that class, I think it would have to get serious attention. If I hunted elk with modern rifle, I'd sure look at it.

Sadly, both gun safes are already stuffed full, so I'll have to leave it to others to buy one...

i've had the 270 and 7mm wsm and i love them both. and the 325wsm will be my elk gun for next year for sure. and if it is anything like its smaller brothers then i will be very very happy

Winchester just closed the factory, thus discontinuing all Model 70 rifles. Pretty shocking, unless they announce teaming up with Browning to have them built in Japan by Miroku. As big as the WSM have been lately its pretty suprising.

what the are shuting down is the gun side they said there not making money but there ammo will still be made and they are already in partner ship with browning

I'd get a .338. Theres never been a popular 8mm cartridge so IMO the .325 is never gonna be as popular as the .338. I'd bet the ammo for the .325 will be much harder to find,and handloaders don't have a great selection of 8mm bullets either.

I am not anti-shortmag, I own a 300WSM and like it. Alot.
I do not see the 325WSM approaching the performance of the 338wm.
That doesn't mean I wouldn't buy it...just not the same.
I would buy and handload for it.
The smaller-bore shortmags have a bigger advantage over their standard-length equivalents.
check 270 vs 270WSM.
Check 7mmMag vs 7mmWSM.
More pop from less powder.
I think this case is maxed out at .308.

The 325 WSM balistics are superior to the 338 Win Mag.

You can do your own search for balitics data, but from the multiple sites I've checked, the 325 catches the 338 at 300 yards (for energy)because of better balistic coefficient and cross sectional density of the bullets. It keeps better down range energy and has better trajectory over any range.

Well, as a reloader, I'd stay away from the 8mm variety. Part of the problem is bullet selection, the other part is bullet seating depth in a wsm case. You run out of capacity in the wsm long before the 338. If you shoot factory ammo, I think the wsm's are the way to go.

I'm a big fan of the 300 wsm, and thought about the 325, but decided against it.

I DO NOT want to debate the 325vs338 thing, but comparing bullets of similar SD, the BC of the 338 is much better....
that's all.
If I bought a 325WSM, it wouldn't be because I thought it would perform like a 338wm.
325 is a good cartridge for its' own reasons.
I think the new Federal338 is a good cartridge too, but would not compare it to a 338wm.

I have a Remington 8mm Mag. It is probably the best long range Elk/Moose cartridge available in this country, with the right bullets. However, it is no fun to shoot from the bench with full bore loads. I suspect the 325 would be more of the same ballistics and a bit less recoil because of the smaller powder charge used to get the same ballistic results.
