I guess anything's possible but they are notoriously inaccurate when it comes to fish numbers.

Info came straight from the tribal netter that caught it.

Wooly, unless you saw it with your own eyes that's exactly what I meant when I said notoriously inaccurate.

Don't worry about the nets in the river, you'll catch fish and will have a blast!

Fished today below satsop, plenty of fish getting by the nets. Killed 6 wild coho, 1 king and a king jack, also lost a king at the boat and missed or lost another 4 or 5. Finally getting good

The S Monte reach down the water is in good shape but spotty as to fish. Not much to be found on the out going tide but as always somewhere in the incoming you will have a bunch moving up. Seems the golden rule is find the seals and stick with them.

Fishing was good upriver from the tidewater Sat. morning, then dead after a couple hours. Looked at the hydrograph for the area later and saw that the river had started to rise about when the bite stopped. There are no absolutes in salmon fishing, but it does seem that a rising Chehalis is an indication of tough fishing for the most part. Definitely plenty of fish around now that the water is higher and cooler.

Is anyone catching any hatchery coho? My catch is a relatively small sample size, but I haven't seen one yet. I'm not overly concerned; 1 or 2 wild fish is plenty for me. Just curious.

Colder weather and more water. Finally.

I had my most memorable grab of the fall yesterday, burning a spinner across a riffle when a beatiful hooknose just obliterated it on a dead run. So cool. Then it was anti-climactic because he just death rolled for like 30 seconds and I dragged him into the net.

The number of hatchery fish has dropped dramatically in the last ten years. It was 24,948 H & 127,429 W this year in the FRAM. So in a perfect world you would get 5.1 W to each H. As the fish hit the Satsop in numbers you will see more H taken. Chinook it is 19,396 W with 1119 H so the ratio would be 17.3 W to 1 H.

These are the total preseason paper fish numbers forecast and not the harvestable numbers so one should keep that in mind. Also in the world of paper fish ALL paper fish must die. After PFMC and the FRAM is locked in it is all about harvesting these fish. Conservation is another thing so if you fishing take your fish because next time around if the sports can not demonstrate they can take them the NT nets will.

Before I get killed here I did not say I agreed with what WDF&W does in R-6 but it is what happens.

If I'm reading things right on the WDFW website, things should be net free for awhile after today.
Is that correct or where more NT days added?
Thanks for your help.

As far as I know the NT's are done at 6 tonight as nothing posted on WDF&W's web site including any new numbers for the past two weeks. The QIN go in for 3 days Nov. 11-17 and 5 days 18-24, you might look at the QIN HM Page to see if they have set what days.

Fished yesterday in the in Monte area (up and down). Very slow, but did end up going home with two for the boat. Lots of seals, but like Rivrguy said, we did catch both fish near active seals and one sea lion, which I thought was weird. We barely saw any jumpers/rises.

All I will say is there are fish moving but tides are ass backwards so tomorrow will clear things up a bit.

Oh almost forgot, some really nice Chinook in the mix!

To say that forecast and harvest models are imprecise would be a gross understatement.

Limited sample recently shows 6 times that many wild coho in the W:H ratio.

The hatch fish are a no show. Or maybe the wild ones are 6 times better biters?

You make the call.

There are fish moving today with the tide in the lower river just not a fish everywhere thing. Seals are chasing Chum mostly it seems.

Data posted through Oct 24 on the WDFW site gives us a view of the season as the gill netting winds down. Retained catch for the combined tribal and non tribal gill netters compared to the final model through October 24 is as follows:

Chinook: 4,676 fish or 54% of the model
Coho: 33,903 fish or 56% of the model
Chum: 6,008 or 421% of the model

This data does not include sport catch, sport release mortality, or net release mortality. The Quinaults still have 10-15 days in November and are modeled to add another 99 Chinook, 3,872 Coho and 967 Chum to the total.

Soft Bite:

Good job.

Just wonder what the $$$$$$$$ benefit would be if the NT fish were moved to the sports side of the ledger????????

Poor Chum......over fished by the commercial interests.
