I've been using a pair of hemostats to remove pin bones. They work OK but don't seem to grip the bones very well. I'm thinking there has got to be a better tool for doing this.
What do folks like to use for removing pin bones? Thanks for your suggestions. SF

There are tons of options from $3 to $250 just google "pin bone tweezers" or "fish bone tweezers"
I just use a pair of needle nose pliers.

I've been using a pair of hemostats to remove pin bones. They work OK but don't seem to grip the bones very well. Use an alcohol swab or pad to remove the THC residue on those hemostats and they'll grip better. Never would have thought of using hemostats for that. Hippies..........

Actually, I'd think the THC residue would be like a magnet to those fish bones.......What a blast from the past - LMAO.
My wife uses a fancy little pair of tweezer like things that she got at Sur LaTable. I'm sure they can be found cheaper though.

After seperating the meat from the pin bones I use my tounge to force the bones out from between my lips. I then grab them with my fingers and place them in a pile on my plate while swallowing the meat. I often follow this action by taking a sip of cold beer. Yeah, what 2Many said.

My grandma told us to eat some bread if you get a pin bone stuck n your throat. Seemed to work usually.

Thanks for the suggestions and humor. I don't remove them from the fish I eat myself. Just want to do it for the folks I give fish to that aren't to fish bone savvy. THC...what's that?

I give loins to my neighbors. Pin bones are exposed when done on the traeger. Remove if you will.
I just eat them canned. More calcium for me.

I never remove them. If I think someone is incapable of locating them, I'll just serve them a piece of fish above or below the lateral line. Also can make a cut along the line of pin bones prior to cooking...the bones will stand out and be very easy to remove.

I usually just leave them in, and tell people "that's how you can tell it didn't come from a store!"...but if they need to come out, I have a very reliable technique that takes virtually no effort.
I hand a pair of needlenose to my girlfriend and show her the fillet...she's not only good at it, but for some reason actually enjoys doing it.
Fish on...

I am pin bone remover. I usually filet and freeze; then when I cook them I remove the pin bones with a small set of needle nose pliers before the filet hits the grill.
Sometimes, if I am really tired or in a hurry I cut the strip off that contains the bones - but that's sloppy.
Fish bone caught in the old wind pipe, swallow some olive oil.
I was working the Puyallup Show one year and took a walk over to a Smoke Salmon booth and put a hunk of it in my mouth, chewed then swallowed. I got a bone stuck in my throat. Did a lot of coughing; had a hard time talking, but eventually it slid down. Not long after that I asked a Paramedic what they do, and olive oil is the trick.

Hopefully, have lots of fish to process, cut out the strips with the pin bones, vacuum pack the filets and break out the canner, can the strips, if not enough for a load, freeze to await more. Good canned salmon and no bones in either the filet or the cans.

Use what all the professional pin bone pullers use. curved spring loaded needle nose. this way you don't dig into the meat , just glide the curved edge and pull. http://www.jonard.com/jonard-ecommerce/control/product/~product_id=44138 or if you really need it done fast http://www.jarviscanada.com/brochure/PB-1%20Battery.pdf

"Not often any oppossums in my kitchen" If you need one, just let me know. There's one living the bushes at my casa that I'm trying to fatten up. I haven't decided whether to eat it or train it fight.
