Joe, in the future have them email you the agreement, verbal in this modern day world holds no value for most sub humans. Take pictures of the boat as it sits now and then pictures after the mysterious unexplainable fire-- fiberglass burns good.

Don't forget to add the daily storage costs as it will
be sitting in your way for a long time before
they will honor their verbal agreement that they made
to you over the phone.

I also hope that guys pay as I sure hate to see people renig
on a promise, if it actually was.

I'm sure somebody will look up the legalities of a verbal
agreement and post it here. I don't know.

And then I return for another laugh this morning and see that Joe got stiffed. That sucks! I wouldn't hesitate to post the owner's name if you can't get this resolved. Just my 2

Don't give them the boat Joe! clean it up and make 3 times what they were gonna give you for the salvage. they're being extremely ungrateful! Not sure what you would do about the title for the boat though?

Hey Fly , the people that sunk that R&B boat in the hump, in oct, paid that guy 1500$ for getting his boat out, $650 is very fair, if they only want to pay 200 give it to them in peices.....

Email or a simple written note would have eliminated lot's of the problem.

Would be nice to have something in writing.....dated, amount, and signed by parties involved.......not sure about the legal bit , being done with Email. When I retired in 1997, email didn't amount to anything and probably wasn't legal but maybe things have changed in 15 years.

I'm sure I wouldn't do any damage to the boat......sure hate to see you get taken to court, and end up paying for a new replacement boat.

Might have to have to have an attorney write up a letter stating that the boat has been retrieved as agreed upon and is ready to be picked up by a certain date.

If the boat is not picked up by said date, storage fees would start accruing.

Send it certified mail.

Or for $200, take your chainsaw and lop off about 1/3 of the hull and let him have that as the first installment.

Sadly but, they are the rightful owners of the boat, and without a Salvage lien or anything written. Not much that can be done. Falls under my word against his. Which really equates to Joe doing alot of hard work for some dumbasses to renig on a verbal deal, and possibly get little or nothing. He is in posession of thier property and he cannot sell it, damage it in anyway or he can be on the hook for Neglegent Salvage according to the RCW's. All bussiness transactions need to be in writing of some sort with signatures... I hope the best for Joe, And he sould out the bums, that many on this board went out of thier way for, in tracking down the lost gear, and putting the finders in contact with the owners..... Some people just SUCK

I talked with the guys that fished that RB out and it wasnt een totally submerged and the owner had no problem paying them whatever they wanted and he got his boat back and they got paid.........

I am being more the fair...I did talk with the one guy and he told me , well you know...............then the other guy called and we had a good conversation that was positive but I still have the boat and they still have the $$$$$

anyways he said that they were thinking it over and would get back to me...believe me if things dont work out I will post the names ...
but I want this to turn out positive for all of us and I dont want to have to post there names or whatever......

thats all..............thanks for the advice and support

You had to go underwater to get it back and they don't want to pay, amazing!
The big question is "did you see any fish while underwater"? That boat made for some good structure in 7' of water!

I hope you get paid what was agreed upon. That is way to much time and effort on your part for a measly $200.00.
