I've got a chance to pick up a very nice custom Lamiglas rod at a good price. It's an 11' rod made as a custom job for a Canadian who intended it to be mainly for silvers and steelies.

I did a fair amount of fishing with floats last season using my 8'6" spinning setup and liked it but had a tough time keeping the belly out under crappy conditions (most of the time).

I'm interested to hear from anyone who uses one of these long setups. How long does it take to get over the feeling you're waving a flagpole? Do you prefer a heavy or light action? Personally, I like my spinning setups with a light tip.

As usual, any and all comments welcomed.

Bruce

Hello B Gray I use a 10'-6" medium lite for bobber fishin for steelhead and it seems to work just fine at keeping the belly out of my line. 6" more ought to work all that much better. Just be ready to set the hook a little harder. Good Luck!!!

I have 2 10'6" rods and 1 10' rod that I use for float fishing. They are all spinning rods.

I use my 10' rod most of the time because I
like the 2-10# rating. I just purchased a 10'6" 12-20# for salmon fishing.

It should not take long to get used to the longer rod, they are a lot of fun. I usually
have 10# fireline on my 10' rod. It has a smaller diameter making it easier to keep the line off the water and no stretch for better hook sets.

Greetings: have been float fishing for several years...Have had considerable success with rods from 10.5 to 12.5 feet.
I tend to perfer a mediun light rod, such as, the Sage 3113MB. I have landed 20lb'Steelhead and a 43 lb king with this combo.
I tend to run with a 15lb main and a 10lb leader.
Your arm strain will lessen if you try a slow underhand cast and try to visualize where the float will land. try to keep the float size down to about a 5 inch 3/4" ..should be ok for most conditions... your Lamiglass may also make a great spoon rod,I'm currently using a 10.5 ft GL-3, as a combination float rod/spoon rod. tight lines

I have 3 custom Loomis float rods for jig fishing that are from 11'4" to 13'. I love the long rods for float fishing, they make a world of difference when fishing a float. Line control is the key to getting the bites. Alot of bites are missed because of slack in the line and the long rods all but eliminate this. Good luck with the rod, you'll like it.

I have several float rods. I prefer the rods to have a crisp feel to them. I have a gloomis float rod that I can't stand to use.

I have two customs I built from cabelas that also function as drift rods. They work very nice for fishing the far side of the river, to keep line drag out, to slow the drift down. They are fast action rods.
