Fishing a spinner under a float has been common practice on the Vedder River for many years. They use it for steelhead and Chinook as well. I believe there is a book on float fishing that discuss this technique.

I've never seen a fish caught on a spinner under a float. Maybe STS will enlighten me and run an article on it next issue.

I've never seen a fish caught on a spinner under a float. Maybe BentRods will enlighten me and run an article and do a video for me. Fixed it for you. Fun video BR.

Looks like you'll have to get a bunch of spinner blades and a centerpin reel Drew...and maybe a trip to the Chilliwack/Vedder. After that video, how can you not? Cool fun video, nice fishing hole to say the least, BR.

Is anybody making their float spinner on leader with folded metal clevis and beads? Using a folded metal clevis and beads in stead of the traditional double barrel swivel rigging, would allow one to add some color, weight (brass beads) to the float spinner.
It sounded like on Rod's video he is possibly using beads on his float spinner, I couldn't tell for sure though.

Clevis and beads are unnecessary, even a disadvantage, to fishing bling under a float. Colorado's are effective because they flutter as much as rotate, thus making clevis and beads superfluous. A clevis allows French blades to rotate around an axis and works best when pulled through water. This works work well in cast a retrieve situations, but not under a float. The Colorado spinner works very well under a float because it doesn't need much tension or current to flutter seductively. Although the swivels do allow the Colorado to rotate as well, the important thing is that it is not needed for them to be effective. The barrel swivels on a Colorado are mainly to reduce line twist, as much as allow blade rotation. Nothing says you can't add beads between Colorado and hook for attraction, but seems like more hassle than it's worth. I think BR is actually using and offering colored Colorado blades rather than adding beads to them for color.

I think BR is actually using and offering colored Colorado blades rather than adding beads to them for color. After watching the video again. You're right, a colored blade, "brass, a little bit of orange, chartreuse tip". I've never fished Colorado spinner blades or spoons below a float, but plan to in the future though. So the Colorado is rigged to flutter more like a spoon, with only occasional rotation. Hence, why the Little Shaver spoon is popular also, Interesting. Thanks for the explanation. GG

I know the US Canada border is a mental road block to so many of us. But I can't more highly recommend going to Fred's Custom Tackle in Chilliwack and looking at some of their stuff, especially the hardware. There are two distinct fishing worlds, one south of the border and one north. And honestly, the one up north is possibly more dialed in........

I've fished in more than a few areas in Region 6........I'm here to tell you, I've not been around anyone using a "spinner under a float".
Now with this thread and my creative talents....I made 5 spinners, using blades, from my "old selling spinner days".
4 worked excellent....no fish, but I can see them working very well, with a few more "biters around" OR next Coho season.
The dud was one I built with .029 wire trying to get the "jig look".
I was surprised, at how well they cast !!!!!!!!!
