I’d like to commend Chair Wecker and the commission who voted for the extended comment period considering a lapse in the process that didn’t allow comments to the revisions. The changes were substantially different from the original rule filed.

Unfortunately, this happens on occasion during the every other year rule cycle, and I agree with the Chair that the process needs to be addressed so public comment accompany the newer substantial revision changes.

Bump of an old thread...

I was playing with the WDFW fishing app and while many of the seasons for this year are not seemingly entered yet, Ling and Cabezon are. The Ling season is listed as usual but Cabezon is listed as ending at the end of June rather than November like last year (MA9). Anyone have intel as far has how much stock to put in the app at this point?

My boat caught two on May 1 when we hit Possession for Lingcod (yay!!!!!). Also caught a Lingcod and 4 Rockfish. I've never gone out to exclusively target them but "needle-in-a-haystack" seems like a good description? Everytime I catch one it's like, "Oh a Cabezon! Ok!"

Not an experienced Cabezon fisher but I have been fishing around here since 1960 or so. I have caught 1. IMO you are much more likely to catch a Rock fish while Cabezon fishing. Don't know for sure, but the Cabezon restriction could have something to do with protecting Rock fish. I have no doubt that like every other fish around here, the population is low.
Not protecting Cabezon now could just worsen an already depressing situation. It's OK to be a conservationist without having to be told by the Govt.
