I was wondering if anyone was aware of the proposed idea of the summer run of silvers (hatchery run) on the Solduc no longer being propogated , as part of the cut backs by fish and game dept. I heard this from a volunteer at the solduc hatchery that the dept of fish and game had to cut a run of salmon as a cut back. Since the spring chinook are not a native of the solduc the hatcheries suggested that run,if it had to be done. However the tribes threw a fit, they want the kings of course so the summer coho run is going to be shutdown.I guess they will just kill the fish that come back and no longer spawn them. If this is true what a terrible waste of a great run of fish that is pursued on the salt water as well as the rivers. Do these cutbacks really save that much $$$ the hatcheries are still there and the workers are probably salary pay. I guess it is just politics like usual making the calls so of course it doesnt make since. I would like to hear your imput on this, is it true or not? It may be hush hush and maybe we need to see for ourselves whats going on.

Unfortunately I read that in a article. Sorry can't remember where, but the cutbacks are widespread across all the hatcheries. It will definitely affect our fishing opportunities across the state.

I haven't heard any official word on this one, but lots of scuttlebutt. Odds are, the Quillayutes will likely sweep the hatchery hole with nets (they do do that) to remove the fish that do come back ... these were a native strain fish though, and I would prefer to see them managed as such anyhow ... maybe this will be a step in that direction.
