My buddy Dave and I decided to hit Lake Crescent today on the opener. We've both driven by it hundreds of times on our way to the coast and it has been on our bucket list for awhile.
We ended up a combined total of 15 fish. Dave got his fish on a black leech or bugger and I got most of mine on a white bugger. With the clear water, it was fun watching the fish track the fly before committing to the take.

While we didn't land anything large, knowing they are all wild native fish made up for the lack of size.
We were able to land three species of fish, coastal and crescenti cutthroat as well as beardslee rainbows. Catching new forms of cutthroat and rainbow was pretty cool.

Overall, good weather and a nice day on the water with a good friend.
Here are a few pics from today.

Thanks for taking good care of those fish! Always worth a cast or two for a change of pace. In high school, we ran the spruce railroad trail on the backside everyday in the summer. Can't tell you how many trout I've spooked running on by. Heck, I even got married on the lake two years ago and snuck out the day of:

Pretty cool you guys. Thanks for sharing.

I have wondered for a long time what lies beneath the surface of that lake. Like many, I have yet to take the time to stop and find out.

Great post. I imagine all of us steelheaders have given that lake a lot of thought yet few actually take the time to give it a go. Like Diablo, it is one of the few lakes where the color seems almost magical.

Thanks fellas.
I knew before we fished it that the water was super clear and the color is indeed magical as mentioned. Being on it and looking down into it versus being on shore really sealed the deal for me.
I see some more trips there in the future with hopefully some dry fly action mixed in.

My dad and I fished that lake about six years ago. Beautiful water.

A couple of those trout look like the head and tail are disproportionate in size from the body. Could they be older fish that don't grow that big? I don't think that lake has a big food source for fish.

Very nice. That lake is fascinating. One of these days, I'll bring the toon up there when I'm chasing summer runs and give it a go. Hopefully, I won't encounter the Lady of the Lake. Anyone who hasn't read about her should Google her. Bizarre, true story that will make you wonder what else lies at the bottom of that 600-ft. Behemoth of a lake.

Camped there last year. We spent most of our time in the upper Solduc floating dries for cutties. Love rock hoppin and experimenting with with modified spey casts to fish the tight spots. I have caught some bigger fish out of the lake with heavier spoons to get down deep. In the good old days downriggers were used to get to the beardsleys. Special place for sure. Thanks for sharing.

Great fish and shots. I've long wanted to try that lake.
