We are going to be in Manson for a week, the first week of August.
Any suggestions for where/what to try for? Within an hour would be nice. Last time we took the kids to some of the ponds nearby for warmwater fish. They had a great time, caught lots of perch, sunfish, little bass etc on bobbers and worms.
I could drag our sled over with us if I wanted to, have a pontoon boat, and paddle board as well. Is there anything to try near Pateros, Methow, or in the Columbia? Bank options, or boat?
Just looking for some possibilities.
Thanks!

Wapato Lake. Troots and panfish galore.
Fish on...

+1 to Wapato and Roses Lake. Wapato lake has a little resort that rents out rowboats. Rent boat, throw kids in it, and row out into the middle of the lake and fish worms chunks under a float about 30 inches. Of course fish the edges too. Hot Rainbow trout, and all warmwater species await you and the kiddos will have a blast. Bring bug spray.

There is Lake Chelan. Also Grimes and Jameson Lake. Grimes has Lahontan cutthroats.

There is pretty good bank fishing for Browns at Antilon Lake which is a little north of Roses and Wapato. The south end is where we have done the best. Casting room can be a little cramped, but we have caught a mess of 12-15 inch Browns throwing blue and silver castmasters and little cleos. Might be a little rough for youngsters unless they are pretty good casters and don't mind some brush.

Brewster is putting out kings and sockeye. Slow troll ace high jrs tipped with a small piece of shrimp for a load of sockeye.

Achewter is right. Fished the big river right out of Brewster last August and spanked the sockeye. Make sure you pad the outside of your boat up, it was like bumper boats out there.

Great information thanks.
I just need to decide if I want to drag the boat over now. It would be fun for the kids to see some different water. I would like to try that sockeye fishery too, I have been eyeing it for a while now.

FWIW, I wasnt impressed with the Brewster Sockeye fishery... and personally wouldnt haul my boat all the way over there to fish it. The fish are dinkers and the two times I've fished it the fishing sucked and it was bumper boats.

The fish are dinkers and the two times I've fished it the fishing sucked and it was bumper boats. Been slow the last 5-6 days from what I've heard and saw. Fished Sat morning for kings, lost 2. Lots of boats...reminded me of why I don't fish there anymore.

The Methow has some nice trout in it if you want to toss around the bug rod. Just an FYI, Jameson is a split season lake and closed 7/4 and opens again in October.

http://www.fpc.org/currentdaily/HistFishTwo_7day-ytd_Adults.htmwith the #s over the last two dams. I'd give it a shot for another week or two if I had to be in the area. Friends from Spokane are doing well now but I just can't justify going east this time of year to fish.

The fish are dinkers and the two times I've fished it the fishing sucked and it was bumper boats. Good point, I am only a couple months away from high-quality salmon fishing in my backyard, with no crowds. I should probably just wait. There is a lot of good information coming in here! I fished the Methow a couple of times and had a great time, but this was back before I was a supposedly responsible adult and I just trespassed everywhere I thought looked like good fishing. And it WAS (I was hopper fishing, so much fun). Any suggestions on access points? PMs welcome.

Can you fish from the bank directly below Wells, or is there a deadline? Are sockeye legal? Will be there too, without boat.

Follow up to this post.
Back from Manson last Friday. I fished a bit. One morning I took my paddleboard north from Manson marina about a mile, to a rocky outcrop. Clear water and I could see lots of fish down there. Caught a smallmouth and a pikeminnow on a lead-eyed minnow pattern on a sinking line. Then I paddled back.
Me and my dad tried the Methow near Carlton "Mediterranean of the Methow" one morning. Caught westslope cutts, "redband" rainbows and a bull trout. All on hoppers. If I go back I want to float it, the Methow is just a little too big to wade. The fishier spots were tough to get good drifts over, with a boat we could have caught a lot more fish. Beautiful spot though, lots of fun.
Mostly I just laid around the pool like a lizard on a rock watching the kids swim.
