Recently returned from Tasmania and Queensland. Took the 5wt along. Didn't try Tazzie (this time) but did find a few places to try for trout on our next trip. Did try some of creeks in NE Queensland.

Got a little Jungle Perch on a caddis. Was hard to find access in the rainforest where I wanted to be out in the open (snakes) and upstream of the crocs. I'll do a little more research next time as I saw some nice Archer fish, who should just love dries, and rainbow fish that seemed agressive.

Carcassman,
I've heard that Tasmania offers some pretty good trout fishing.
If you have some pictures of the fish or geography from down there please post them up.

Tazzie has some (reportedly) great trouting, mostly browns. It was too difficult to find the time and place, plus the licence is spendy. That said, when i go back I'll try it. It is also my understanding that the fishing there for trout can be pretty technical as they have pretty clear water to swim in. I'll see what I can do about pictures; probably time I learned to post them.

From what I hear the trout fishing on Tazzie is pretty similar to that found on NZ's south island where I have spent a bit of time.

Technical is a good word for it. Primarily spot and stalk fishing in water that is as clear as the air around it. Plenty of educated fish in the places that are easy to access. Getting off the beaten path helps with regard to both fish numbers and being able to get close to them, but that comes at a cost as well.

I left feeling fairly frustrated with a lot more missed opportunities than connections, but the experience was amazing and I can't wait to go back. Truly magical setting and the fish are badass.

Next time I am taking a packraft and going deep into the jungle.
