It certainly doesn't work for me that's for sure. Not even for carp.

drift fishing is becoming a lost art these days. the trade off of becoming a skilled bobber guy is not feeling those incredible king bites!

good vid though.

Seen early fall kings chase down egg goo under a float across big gin clear pools while fishing summer runs have video no chance of posting (kindle) lol. brew. Spoon and drift fishing are my go to for salmon and winter fish but summer runs can't beat the cp rod. The Tug is the hard hardcore drug.

Feeling the bite vs. watching the bite....not sure which I like more.
Sorta like blondes vs. redheads

Nicely done! Great weather, perfect water conditions, nice camera work. Using jigs, eggs, and shrimp. No secret baits there.

Thanks for sharing. And for brightening up a rainy/windy Tuesday afternoon here in Portland.

Exactly how I feel.

I carry a spoon/drift rod with me and a float rod at all times. It allows me to effectively fish almost any water. On some days I just carry a Spey rod and a box of flies.

I started out fly fishing and have tried nearly everything now for salmon and steelhead in the last 20 years. Why would anyone limit themselves to one technique for any other reason than arrogance or stubbornness? Honestly, that is my read these days and I have traveled with various fishing groups of all types.

Some say it is more fun to have that challenge. From my observations it is rarely for fun, usually for ego or laziness and not wanting to step outside the box. I'll take the "easy" route, or the hard route but don't need to justify my choices or point fingers at others.

I think most people that stick to one method religiously know they are limiting themselves and go a little crazy justifying it.

Good call! I will use whatever technique I need to get into fish. If that means changing up through out the day, so be it. Nice vid!

Not to bash, but Kings in those small spawning streams might should be left alone. After all, it took a huge struggle to get that far, only to get harrassed near the end.

Maybe those Oregon Chinook are more aggressive taking the hook than what I experienced on the Vedder River in B.C. while fishing with our local hero Mr. Vedder, ( one of his ancestors the river was named after) and B.C. hot shot fisherman Clint Derlago. We fished a slot where the Chinook just bobbled the float a bit and I didn't know to to set the hook. I was used to seeing the float go under. I scored 0 while the C&R team of of Vedder and Derlago released 10 as we took turns.

I did have one jerk my float under on the first cast at daylight further up the river, then stream a 100 yards down stream then broke me off.

I do recognize that both are far better fishermen than I am, but it was still an exciting day on the river.
