I bought a STX about three weeks ago and used it last week out at the OP. After casting, the spool would get stuck in free spool. Even after turning the crank a few times the spool wouldn't engage. I found by keeping pressure on the trigger button long enough to engage the spool was the ticket. A royal pain, but, I delt with it. I know something wasn't quite right. Just wondering if any one has experienced this?
I did return the reel in exchange for another one. So problem should be rectified.

I've had mine for almost 3 years and have never had a problem at all. Good luck on the replacement.

I have a dozen or so of those STX's. I have had one or two over the years which had the issue you're describing. One was outta the box, and I did a return. If I remember right, another one developed that problem after lotsa heavy salt water use. I sent it to da Brewer and he fixed it up for me. I forget which part broke, but it was a couple dollar issue. For the most part the STX's have been great to me,

Mine does the same thing, after maybe a dozen uses. Does anyone know what part needs to be replaced? The reel At least that's how I solved it when mine had the same problem just out of the box.

Lol, Looks like Coley is firmly in the Dawia camp now. My Ventio has been bulletproof & a Lexa 2500 is proving out to be a solid steelhead/coho spinning reel. But back to the Revo's, must be one under engineered part. My Revo Inshore has been flawless thru at least 100 fish. Stock drag system is VERY impressive. c/22

I am going through this right now, except mine has bigger issues. My second time out using it, this last weekend, it rained all day and then froze that night. The next morning it was completely jammed up, like water had gotten in there and froze the whole reel. When it finall thawed, the thumb bar would not engage sometimes, and it would only cast about 15 yards. I removed the magnets and that did not help. I am returning it, and hoping they don't all leak...?

There is thread on here about the inshore Revo's having that exact problem, everyone I know gave up on them and switched to something else. I researched it and talked with several repair shops, all said it was very common and even after a fix it may not last long.
I sent mine back twice on warranty and they fixed it, at least for about 10 casts, then it would start doing it again. The next time I sent it in they sent me a new one, never used it, sold it on eBay.
Not everyone with the smaller revo's had this problem, but the repair shops said it happens too often.

It is the return kick lever. The older ones were made from aluminum and would wear a spot from the shaft gear that kicks the reel back into gear, the new piece has a stainless steel insert that eliminates the issue. If it is a right hand reel I think I may still have a couple kick levers I bought to have on hand for fixes on my reels.

I have the updated left hand kick levers and the plastic actuating rods that move it. Even ones with the new parts have problems, that's why I got rid of mine. I really liked the reel, didn't want to get rid of it, but too many trips were messed up by the reel.

ondavr, Don't know what reel you have, but there is no plastic rods that kick the reel back in gear. The kick lever is engaged by the gear at the bottom of the reel shaft. The gear is made out of steel and that is why it wore on the lick lever made of pot aluminum. The gear is item #38 on this schematic: http://www.abugarcia.com/sites/default/files/RVO3%20STX-L%2034-12899-2%2022%2000%201265420.pdf

I bought the parts at Ollie Damon's, they said these are the parts that fail, don't expect the fix to last very long. If they lied to me and said the plastic bar was a problem and it isn't, that's fine, it was $2.00. I bought 2 sets of those and the new kick levers, After talking with them and many friends with this reel, all saying the repairs don't last, I decided to sell the new replacement reel ABU sent me. Mine was fixed twice by ABU and it failed each time on the first trip, so a total of three failures in three trips, that's why I sold the new one they sent me. If you have a different experience with them great, I didn't want to take the chance of being in Mexico, Florida or Alaska and having it fail again. The second two failures were in AK with no back up reel with me.
