I just purchased a 14' aluminum drift boat and it has 9' oars and seems a little akward or should I say hard to manuever would 8'6" be better or what is standard for a 14 footer,any help would be appreciated

I use 8.6 on my standard side, standard bottom 14 foot wood boat. I built my boat over the coarse of six or seven months and had ample opportunity to ask around about oar length. The 8.6 is what everyone recommended. I can't imagine using 9's unless you have a high side, wide bottom. I see you're from Kenmore as well. If you're ever in need of a fishing partner let me know.

I had 9' cats on my old boat - a 14 - and never really thought about anything shorter. Never had a problem with them.

I have a 14ft driftboat and i tried 9ft oars
and they didnt work as good as the 8'6 ones did. Go with the 8'6 you'll like them much better.

I have owned a couple of 14 footers and find that the standard rule works for me: half the length of the boat plus 1 1/2 feet, thus 8'6" oars shoud work real well for you in most situations. Hope this helps.

Thank You all for the great advice I purchased a pair of 8'6" Sawyer lights yesterday .And my boys and I are going this am from monroe to snohomish to practice some catch and release Will let you know how it went .I leave monday for the coast to target some springers on the solduc bogie,quilyute.I guess they the indians start netting the 1st of may. ((
