Thinking about heading down this weekend. Is anyone having any luck? Any info. on techniques that are working or the best trolling path would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have heard that cut plug herring in the morning is the way to go. Any info. on this? Lastly, about what time are people launching by?

Thanks in advance,
Canyon Man

The Wind is dead. Say your time for somewhere else.

I fished the Wind for the first time this year and it was great!! But, that was weeks ago--they tell me it's supposed to get better? Why are the counts down now.....when it is "prime time"?

Hey guys ,don't give up on the wind yet.I talked to a fish checker last week and he said that the windriver fish haven't even showed up yet ????.They've only got some thing like 80 fish at the hatchery and that almost every fish thats been caught has been upriver fish. How they know that is beyond me but that is what he said.So we need to waych the dam count and if it starts shooting up ,we need to get back up there.I think it was like 1300 and something the other day thats is up from 900 so maybe it will start picking up again.I've got friend thats up there today,I'll find out what he saw and let you all know. P.S. I did catch a 16lb springer on the kalama today, but out of all the boats on the river we talked to,I was the only one (15 boats)there was also 3 steelhead caught today too.Good luck

OK, tossing this one back up to the top of the page. Planning the long weekend and I'm getting conflicting reports from the Wind. Last weekend we met some folks on the Cowlitz that said the Wind was on fire again, but some of the above posts say its over. Anybody been there lately or here any concrete news? Duck? Dawhunt? Thanks!

I've been talking with WDFW and ODWF folks for a story I'm working on and they claim the fishing is still good. The WDFW folks said bankies up in the canyon are doing very well. I've never fished up in the canyon so I don't know anymore particulars. Whatever your pick, the area is a beautifull place to go fart around. If the salmon are off you can always find a trout lake or two to get something for the grill. Enjoy.

Hey Obsessed, we were their yesterday had hooked in to one and saw 3 other being caught from the banks. Also we saw a guy on the boat lose one and another guy on a boat hook up. I don't know why some people are saying it;s over and some say it isn't. i think the fishing can be spotty from day to day and even fromhour to hour. I think if your in the area its worth the trip and also check out the klickatat river too!!!!
just my 2 cents and what we observed yesterday. Good Luck.

I fished the Wind on Thursday and Friday last week (to avoid the holiday rush). It was on fire on Thursday and slowed a bit on Friday. We were banking it in the lower canyon. Definitely a combat fishing scene. The best spots were gone by 4:30 AM so you had to walk in early, but it was worth it! Most fish were caught before 7 AM.
