Just wanted to grab some info since I have not fished one. I have a 16ft willie and a 13 ft superpuma but my normal fishing buddy has a bum shoulder this year. I wanted to pick up a small boat I could fish my self and fit in the back of a truck without having to trailer. I was wonder about which pontoon would meet those requirements and be safe for the duc/bogie.

I was looking at the badcat and the skookum 9 to 10ft. Anyone have any info or fish the single man of these. Looking for performance/handling/ease of getting in a truck bed. That type of thing. Any help would be great. Thanks

I had a classic accessories colorado xt. great little boat. broke down and set up easy. was fairly light and even had a transport wheel under it. as far as the Sol duc I dunno. that river can get hairy for seasoned rowers.

Lots of experience with 1 person boats. 10' Outcast, Skookum, Badcat, Sotar, etc would be perfect. Outcast not the best for anchoring but the others you can anchor and fish out of pretty effectively. Too much rocker on the Outcast causes it to swing wildly in any substantial current. I'm sure someone will come on here and say never anchor such a boat but it's doable and safe if done with some caution.

A 10' Skookum style boat is a bit heavier than most would think but is manageable by 1.

I'd stick with the brands I mentioned if floating the Duc is what you're looking to do. The cheaper boats are just that, cheap.

I agree with Wntrrn with regards to floating the Sol Duc. The 10' Skookum is heavy as one-man pontoon boats go, but far more durable than the lighter models. That said, I row a Watermaster, but I'm careful about it on some rivers.

Let me know if you want to try any of the two boats below. I'll meet you on the river of your choice and you can try them out while maybe catching a fish or three.

The two boats below are both 9 foot in length, fit in the back of a pickup (tailgate down), can easily be handled by one person (60 and 45 pounds respectively), 5 year warranty on the boat, lifetime warranty on the frame (made locally in North Bend), and are pretty darn good boats, certainly comparable to the other brands mentioned.

Speaking of other boats and as bias-free as possible, Outcast makes a good product; their pontoons feature a bladder and outer zipper and not my preference but have been around for a long time, Badcat, Skookum and Catchercraft all use Maxxon pontoons, good for the money but not as good as Sotar. Catchercraft does offer boats made from Jack's Plastic Welding, a US-made pontoon with welded seams and more comparable with Sotar's quality. Skookum makes a galvanized frame though they don't have their original frame builder since moving its operation to Arizona. I know because he does Catchercraft frames now. Badcat makes some pretty trick aluminum frames using NRS products though I'm not sure if he does much in the smaller sizes (9 footers). Catchercraft offers both galvanized and aluminum frames.

Take Catcherman up on the offer, great rigs!
We have a couple at the lodge and people love them and they take a beating.
Ours are still going strong after many trips down the Situk and it is one river you bounce off of allot of stuff!

The Situk River must have the highest density of steelhead per volume of water than any other river in the world. If you ever wanted to float over literally thousands of steelhead, go check it out. I can't wait to go back in 2015. Problem is I can't decide whether to go back for steelhead or try the fabled coho fishing?

No PM received but my email is on the website, along with the phone number.

Regarding anchoring, I anchor my 10 foot boat all the time. There are some days I don't even get off the boat, I just fish from run to run anchored while covering a spot, then pull anchor and drift down a few feet to new water.

The 10 foot boat fully assembled can fit in the back of the truck at an angle but it won't with a canopy on the back. But all the boats your talking about can be disassembled and fit back there just fine. But it is nice to transport the boats assembled, so as not to mess with inflating and deflating at the end of the day. I carry my 10 footers and bigger fully assembled on a trailer and my 9 footers fully assembled in the back of my truck.

I would go no smaller then 10' if you want an anchor and float the coastal rivers. Love my badcat started with a 9' then 10' 12' now 14' fatties and I'm in love with my boat now.

And badcat makes a 9' boat. Shawn can customize your boat/frame to your needs.

9' badcat.
