Fishing and Hunting News has some major drawbacks due to the fact it must be published weeks if not months in advance. They have a huge subscriber base to draw from for their revenue, fishing pictures and guide reports. This doesn't even include their ad revenue from the fishing industry. Every page is full of ads to support the paper. The information is dated at best and definately not as reliable as we would like.
I don't find to many articles in the paper that are just full of great ideas or tips. The maps are a point of interest if you want to visit a different part of the state.

STS has some great articles and tips in the magazine. I have back issues dating to the 80's and enjoy reading the old articles. (Frank Amato tells why tadpollies are his favorite plug) It is a keep sake magazine where as the F&H is a quick glance at what else is going on in the State and should be discarded.

STS has articles that continue to make me think about my techniques and tactics. Bill Herzog is a very knowledgeable fishermen and I enjoy his writings even if he has turned solely to fly flipping... JK I guess thats the best way to get invited to the Dean...hehe. My favorite section of the magazine is the tips and technique section other readers send in. Get some great ideas to build on or disagree with.

The internet has become a great resource for information over the last few years and continues to grow. Bulletin Boards such as Bob's, Ifish, Flyshop's, Dan Blantons and yes even Nwfishing have some outstanding fishermen who participate in discussions about every aspect of fishing techniques. If you don't know or aren't quite sure it is nice to get some feedback from others and usually the same day. Another fun aspect of the internet has become the voice chat with other fishermen. It won't be long and we will have full video capability to talk riggings, tie flies, build rods and drink beer together. The technology keeps getting better and we keep benefitting from the expertise and experiences of others.

Times are Changing
Tight Lines and enjoy some of the sun while it lasts.

Good idea! "Parker's Fish Cam".

All I need is a portable computer, digital camera, wireless network connection, and the appropriate software.

Better yet, I think we need the "Bob Cam". Take all the above hardware and install it on Bob's driftboats. We mount the camera either on Bob's boat or on the lip of his hat!

Ok, who's ready to donate some good equipment for this project?

Parker

definately have to agree with you guys on STS. I've been subscribing since the mid 80's and still have every issue.. There is something for everyone to learn from time to time..
