Pretty cool. If there was a minimum size, would you count that in your length measurement? smile

Too cool

Obviously a benign mutation.

Stealing the image for my collection!

Thanks for sharing.

Not so quick with the diagnosis, doc!

A developmental cause would not necessarily be genetic in nature (mutation-based). The fusion of embryos would explain it just as easily without any mutations. I posted a steelie pic here a few years ago that seemed somewhat similar.

I asked about getting tissue samples from this fish but the meat was sold and the frame went to the depths.

If anyone comes across some fish anomaly in the future, FREEZE the sample.

Take care,

Looks like nothing but flat fin-ray tissue with 3-4 extra long rays.... I see nothing to suggest vestiges of other types of atrophic/absorbed tissue.

While marking resident cuties above a waterfall we found a couple with a second dorsal fin. A couple of rays between the head and the main dorsal. The more you look, the more you see.

Fish mullet. Stray from the Samish or the skok. I was afraid this would happen...

That fish is just trolling for attention.
